Heres a web site, something we found at the expo.
It is something funded by the NZ government for new immigrants. You get packs of information sent out. Not looked into it yet as you have to actually be there, and have residency, but it may be worth a look see to those out there now!

hi
I had a quick look at the link. It seems to me that this is NOT an official government thing but rather a private "distance learning" program. Just thought I'd mention this so that people look into it carefully before enrolling.

There's been a thread on here before and some people have done it. It is free and you get loads of reference materials which are by all accounts pretty good. http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2794
Hope this helps

it IS FREE, but there is a down side...you only get the information and start the course once in NZ.
It would be a great adavntage to many to know all about NZ culture, heritage and all that is included in the package BEFORE going out....then you may not feel such an outsider. But this won't happen as it is funded by NZ gov and obviously once your there and earning you in a way are paying for the pack through your taxes.

We signed up to it at the Expo, The guys of Get a new Life where running the stand, you get sent loads of books free, and other help and advice, someone to phone for advice for a year could even be them.

I confirm what Jo and Andy said. The lady from Get a New Life was signing people up. and it is a free programme. It is something akin to the citizenship programme that was mooted by the UK government some years back that was ridiculed by the press.
(Don't think you have to learn the words to the NZ anthem or do the Haka within a week :) )

met them at the York Expo - got a good DVD to watch and 'Mandy Mittens' emailed us! oh the name...sorry it just makes me giggle
I used to work for a distance learning dept at my local college and yes its all funded by the Gov's so you really dont have much to loose by enquiring.
