Hi all

Been a few weeks since I updated you on how things are going with my application to join my OH in Wellington.

As expected the lovely people in NZIS have decided that they won't give me a temporary working permit, despite much gnashing of teeth and sobbing pleas down the telephone line. It was the usual story - you're not living together at the moment, so that means you can't be a genuine couple. The whole process was very stressful and upsetting, and I am convinved that the visa officer assigned to our case was a robot - no emotion in the voice, and repeating the same old company line over and over. We received the news last Tuesday and for both of us, it was one of the most distressing days we've ever had , not to mention that the robot decided to break this news to me on my birthday!

BUT...

They did say I could have a visitor visa (the old 9 month job) and told me to reapply from NZ after 2 months of living there, and chances are it would be approved then. So you know what, I'm packing my bags (with summer clothes & flip flops of course!) and heading over the 1st week in December. I can survive for a couple of months without working, and as someone suggested, being a "kept woman" aint so bad!! ;)

So for all of you recently moved to the WWW area, watch out - the red head is on her way!!!

Great news, OK not the way you originally wanted to go to NZ but it give you a way in and hope for a better future with your OH.
Enjoy being a kept woman, you can get used to it if you try hard!!

Enjoy Xmas in your new home and as an officially sanctioned NZ 'commited couple'. O' the hoops these officials make us jump through.

Hope that we can join you March/ April 06
Just have the interview with NZIS to go so keep your fingers crossed for me.

All the best
Debbie

Hi Dee

Just caught up with your news. How exciting - you're on your way! I ended up on a fiance visa here in the UK and ended up being a kept woman for a while. You do get used to it. But it's not nice feeling guilty about spending any money especially when you're used to earning your own way. I'd recommend working out a 'salary' for you that you are allowed to spend without feeling guilty (enough to get out and about a bit - maybe buy a cappuchino and cake - but not necessarily an Oxford St (insert Wellington equivalent) spending spree!! :laugh ).
Happy journeys - Keep us posted.

Irishgirl-

Great news, - just goes to show that perserverance and trying a different route can lead to where you want to go!

On a completely serious note - once you get here - its worth looking at making sure you get all bills and even bank accounts in joint names straight away. It helps "prove" you are a couple as you have a paperwork trail showing that you now live together. Sorry if im teaching you to suck eggs (I never understood that saying), but its something that has cropped up with a friend ive met here.

Enjoy every moment of being a kept woman!

Thanks for all the lovely messages guys!

I am really excited about moving to Wellington, but at the same time a tad anxious about leaving behind my family and my little cocker spaniel, Molly. But there is someone very important waiting patiently for me in Wellington, and if we decide to settle permanently in NZ, then Molly can always come over to stay too, right?

I am starting to get a little overwhelmed by all the things I need to do before I leave here in just over 4 weeks time! I am still waiting for my passport to come back from London - hopefully that will arrive this week! Am looking at flight options, probably via LA, and hope to book that by Friday! Need to sell my car before I go! It's a convertible, and not exactly the best time of year to be trying to sell one of those! But fingers crossed!

Deborah, I think the Chocolate Fish is calling us - have you managed to make your way out there yet? Definitely a place to have that cup of coffee!! Coffee at Scorching Bay.. Mmmmmmm

Avalon, thanks for the advice - we are already on the case! The phone and power bills have my name on them, just need to sign some paperwork when I get there, and bank accounts will become joint ones as soon as I land (*snicker*), so the paper trail is building nicely!

Vee, I'll drop you an email to your gmail account over the next couple of days!!

Be in touch again soon!

Irishgirl, (and Smiler)

If you like the Chocolate Fish (and who wouldnt?) have you tried Chocolate Dayz in Days Bay at EAstborne. Its actualy been renovated and is now the dayz Bay cafe (and the coffee prices have gone up!) but its still essentially the same company, but with a view of days Bay rather than Scorching Bay. They do a mean Eggs Benny!

Not much Im afraid, ive only really driven through it a few times. Mum and Dad were quite interested in it when they first came here, and I do know some people who live there.

Is there anything particular you want to know? I may be able to find out something for you.
