Hi all

Questions asked in Parliament resulted in Minister of Immigration advising these stats, after the August 04 dip, there were only 889 EOIs in the pool. :eek

They get about 500 new EOIs per two weeks (see table), and there are about 600 sitting on 100 and 105. :no

So if they pick 1000 in the next go, the pool will be almost empty... :wah

Here are other background stats:

Number of new EOIs received in the pool
February 2,209
March 844
April 436
May 692
June 853
July 1061

Total 6,095

EOIs remaining in pool after selection
18 February 2,012
3 March 2,442
18 March 2,720
2 April 2,796
14 April 2,887
28 April 2,470
12 May 2,279
26 May 2,106
9 June 2,048
23 June 1,802
7 July 1,582
21 July 1,466

UPDATE calcualtion: As they received another 500 in last period and picked 960 or so, the present pool size should be about 900.

The main range of EOIs coming in in June was that 75% were in 150-180 range, but in July this is 140 to 170, with rising interest at 130-140 range

Not only are numbers in the queue falling, but scores are dropping too (as the mechanism provides, but still proof that not enough people are applying)

Get stuck in everyone, even without job offers. :nice1

cheers all

Jamie - thanks v. much for that info.

For those that have been picked with points but no job offer - do you think they will offer PR or will they provide 2 yr work visa's instead?

Have there been many cases of people getting PR immediately with no job offer and what circumstances would bring this about?

Cheers
Moorf

Hi all

It was interesting to see the figures for the pool as we submitted our eoi last week with 115 points so we are on tenter hooks until next weds. If selected how long does it take before you hear anything?

We were selected on the August 18th "dip", Lisa. We have not heard anything in person from NZIS, but the next morning, when we logged into NZIS website, our status had changed to "selected".

(It must have been so much more nail biting in the days before everything went online!)

Apparently we are now waiting between 6 and 8 weeks for our details from eoi to be verified.

Best wishes
Mike

Why all these?

In my view NZIS wrongly assumed that NZ would be attractive for emigrants no mater what. They didn't consirer carefully enough that out there are another attractive countries. While NZIS made sure is harder and harder to emigrate to NZ, other countries( for instance Canada) relaxed the conditions.

Not long ago some people used NZ PR as a bridge to Australia. Now is easier to emigrate to Australia...

Hiya Moorf,

Have you heard anything from NZIS till now. I guess you were picked up on the 4th August. Just trying to find how the large volume of EOI's selected have affected the processing times at NZIS.
Appreciate your response.

Thanks Jamie for those interesting statistics. I think Calin's right in that NZIS assumed that people would not be put off by all the hoops people have had to jump through.

The statistics just go to show how poorly the new system was handled and marketed.

We've heard nothing NZCalling.... :(

And I suspect we will have already left for NZ by the time they despatch the Invitation to Apply..... I shall have to try and find a way of amending our address!

Will then be able to keep everyone informed, especially friends and family!

Moorf, what our immigration consultant told us was that the NZIS is panicking. That's why they've been so drastic in lowering the points. More specifically, they are not getting the number of _qualified_ applicants that they thought they would. So, they just keep lowering the points needed.

If anything, this situation should show the NZIS that maybe they need to re-evaluate the criteria used for "skilled" migrant. That would be a first step.

hi,
picking up on calin's point about oz, i have only just started to look at emigrating to australia/canada as an alternative to nz and am actually surprised at how much more accessable the process seems compared to ayear of inactivity with nzis (selected on 110 points now). maybe they are panicking, and with an empty pool they will have to make some drastic changes....will be interesting to see what happens after the next selection.

I have checked out both countries

If you are older than 44, you can forget Australia, you must be 44 or younger to go under their skilled route.

Canada is easier for me than NZ, but a general job search in my line (IT/Project Management) for Vancouver showed far fewer jobs than one in NZ. The rest of Canada is far tooooooo cold for me ;)

So for me overall, NZ is still my best chance to try somewhere else :nice1

The above post is spot on.
I have a job offer in Auckland but without my Qualification being recognised by the NZQA (they will only give me a level 3 (pre-assement), no points) I can't get enough point to place an EOI.
I have seven BTEC in my field of work, that is seven years worth of study. All the companys in my field in the uk jump at the chance to employ someone who has bothered to educate themselves to this level.
I'm now wondering if I should look elsewere.

Good luck

If you have points but no job offer they will assess your capacity to settle, including if ever visited NZ, relatives, job popularity, whole of family etc

So if you have no offer but enough points they can still say NO (more opportunity for fraud, such a damned silly subjective process, perhaps that is their backstop against feared high volume countries like India "yes you have enough points and no we don't think anyone will hire you, go away"), on other hand don't panic, the numbers are so low it's hard to see them saying no, but then again....... :?

yeah, but then again the nzis maybe not panicking at all as their agenda (stopping hich volume india/asia immigration, as jamie mentions) has actually been acheived. this may do more for helen c's re-election prospects than having hardly any immigrants in the pool.

BJ,

If you have a job offer, then you should be able to get a work permit that will allow you to work in NZ. You can then use your work experience to apply for PR at a later date, when it will give you some points.

Just a suggestion...

Howard

I am suprised that NZIS could hold your PR approval if job offer is not available at the time of application. In case only a work visa is issued, does spouse and kids get their respective visas (i.e. work and student)? Or do they have to apply separately?

thanks.

i guess like in other countries if you have a working visa, you can get a dependent's visa for your wife and kids...

umm im not 100% sure tho if its the same with NZ... :hopeso

Bill,
When do you hope to go, and when does your job start?

It's such a looooooooonnnnnnnnngggggg process. We decided to to make the move last December. Now after having all the quilifications verified by NZQA , Mike has a job to start in Jan . The PR process makes me nerveous, even with plenty of points ,and selection , the whole thing looks worring,( but that is me) .
As many a person hhas said ,for a country who is wishing to recuit, they couldn't have made it more complicated or frustating. (please see cost of immigration)
But we are still going to to board that plane on the 2nd of jan
Good luck every body

Xanctus,
It can only show that you are serious ,and have already put in leg work, and money for your move.
I am sure that an empolyer would look favourably on someone would has started the process, rather than someone who hasn't.
All the best chuck :nice1 :hopeso
