Thanks for the post! Great to hear that you're coming over...I too am a IT guy that can't stand being on a computer all day (unless it's for recording music!)
You might be hard pressed to find anyone on this board that lives in Queenstown...mostly older-corporate-city-family types posting here! ;-)
(That will eventually be us, though!)
Q-town is great, but the population is very transient. Good music during mid summer and mid winter, and several places to get gigs. Unfortunately, people come and go very often, so it's hard to form long term relationships.
I live in Wellington (returning 11/29 from a contracting job in the US), and the music scene in the capital is just amazing. Musicians EVERYWHERE!! It's paradise for players. Tons of clubs and bars for gigs, and people playing any style you could ever want. In addition to playing in several bands, I record and engineer lots of groups both live and in the studio. I would not hesitate to say that if music is your thing, move to Welly!! That said, I DO spend a lot of $$ travelling to the South Island every year for hiking and skiing!
Good luck! Send me a pm when you get to NZ if you want to do some jamming or recording or just see some shows!

I think there are plenty of IT geeks on here as well, and I have been known to strum a tune or ten myself on a guitar, and I used to spend all day sat behind a computer/ programming and repairing telephone exchanges/ multi million pound radio installations! And I am over 40!!!!
Enjoy the forum.

Cheers Guys. Tyler It would be cool to meet up for a Jam. If I fail to get a touring job in queesntown i might check wellington out. I would rather not get another technician job but i would rather do one there than in the UK :nice1 Oh and I am flying over on the same day as you!

If you want a job taking tour buses out might be as well to look at where they are based to start with, it seems that lots of tours include Queenstown but start in the main cities, its more of a destination place. Queenstown is a fun place to visit but too expensive for most of us older family types to live in, we did look at both Wanaka and Queenstown because we are in the ski industry, but property there is well overpriced

I am looking for a job at places like this www.nomadsafaris.co.uk. 4x4s are what I want to drive as that is a hobby of mine over here. I have a friend of a friend who works for one of the tour companies so hopefully they can help with that side.

I don't thing getting ajob in Qtown will be a problem espeically if you want to do tours / work in the tourist industry.
Its getting somewhere decent to live that affordable.
House prices are mental there.
alot of locals live outside of Q'town and comute in. Living in places like Arrowtown or Cromwell or Clyde.
