Hello & welcome to the forum Albertz106
It should not make any difference. I had two episodes, one post natal (20 years ago) and the other more recently (work related and after a major op) a couple if years ago. That took much longer to get over.
Both were declared on my meds form, with the rider that I was much better now, off meds, returned to work etc.
I'd say be honest, they can always ask you doc for more info.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Deborah
Sorry should have said 'and I'm here in Welly now' :clap :clap

Hi,
this is an unfortunate topic... NZ seems so friendly in general, and then the population votes almost 60 to 40 against immigration of sick, disabled and elderly... understandable from a strictly financial point of view, but it is so... materialistic.
We will see - we easily passed the points test, but the hard stuff is still to come. My wife has high blood pressure that is well controlled with standard medication but needs constant treatment. She also is allergic and regularly requires anti histamins. Nothing dramatic, but after what I read. On the other hand we have a globally valid full coverage private health insurance for the entire family - that should make a difference, shouldn't it? But government entities are somewaht unpredictable...
Greetings from the continent

Primarrily the governement is worried about long term illnesses that could cost them wads of money and some infectoios diseases. (Tb is a no-no, but funnily enough AIDS isnt nesesarily so).
A bout of depression is unlikely to cause an issue - especailly if it has a definate cause (ie work stress) rather than you suffering from Clinical depression all the time. This is the what happens in the UK if you have to fill in medicals for jobs or health insurance. They will often ask the same questions. I had to do one for Income Protection insurance - some of the questions were way out there - and i hadnt even ended up with depression - just the work stress. I was asked if I had been hospitilised and all sorts. When filling im my responses - I at all times belaboured the point that it was a single incident caused by a particularly nasty working environment, it was short term and I was not on any medication.
Even if NZIS flag it - from what I understand they will ask for a second opinion, and you may have to see a specailist.
Hope that helps a bit

Hi Stefan,
Just wanted to say hello and welcome you to the forum. You're right - most of the hard work is once you're accepted into the system (although it's easy for me to say that as we already have PR!).
Just wanted to let you know that high blood pressure should not in itself be a reason to decline your application. If it's managed on medication it should not be an issue at all - just remember to make sure that you take as much medicaion with you that your doc will give you, and also carry the most recent prescription with it (which applies to all medications).
Good luck with everything,
Emily
