We've had the usual assortment of shippers round: Pickfords, Bishops Move, Doree Bonner etc, with prices for a 20' ranging from £3.9k - £5k. Strangely enough, the most convincing was the cheapest - DB.

But how do I get the price down further, as he is already the cheapest; I decided a while ago the most I wanted to pay was £3.5k plus insurance. The quotation shows they are willing to price-match, so there is room to knock him down a bit.

What is my best approach? All suggestions gratefully received.

p.s. I hope the shippers dont read this newsgroup..........

I got Bishops down by about £300 and got the insurance down too, get a quote from Leyton purcavil or someone and I think they might match it, Better send off the signed contract so they can't change their mind.
Good luck

Letton Percival are 1.57% on their insurance. That was a big chunk for us when we started adding in the value of the car and bikes.

Just ring Dorre Bonner up and ask what they can do with the price. It sometimes pays to be cheeky. You don't have to let them know they are they cheapest :D

Good luck

Billy - did you have any luck bartering with the shipping companies?

Hello Tia Maria

No, he said he could not lower his price any further. However, he knocked the insurance down from £300 (3%) to £180, so I've gone with him. He was a lot more convincing than the other shippers, had all the ISO9002 certification and all the rest.

All booked up now, our house sale legalities are complete, and we jet off to Auckland, via HK, on 30 November....

Cheers
