Hi guys

I would like to do the EOI myself and all the other forms that would be needed for PR if we go for it from this side that is.

How hard is it to do this yourself it seems a lot of people do go down this route. Also, how much am I looking at to get PR? if I apply myself not using an agency there would be me and my partner, and we do have all the relevant information to prove defacto relationship as well. :)

thanks for your help guys much appreciated.

Where are you located? Costs will obviously differ for different countries.

I am not using an agency and I have found the whole process very straight forward (so far!! ;) )but I will say this has been helped a lot by having this forum to turn to.

Hi

Can't remember the exact costs, might all be on the NZIS site? And you'll need to add on charges for medicals (for our family of 4 think it was around £400 ?? - differs depending on which doctors you go to - check out threads with suggestions on this site).

Would HIGHLY recommend doing all yourself, and look for advise on this forum if you get stuck. We initially went with an agency (see other threads) and paid a VERY hefty price for the experience. They added NO VALUE to the process at all yet cost us hefty.

Best of luck
Babette

Okay.

The EOI step is slow but relatively easy - you need to get 100 points at least in order to be selected - a job offe3r will give you an extra boost of points. I have a degree, a career in IT (As part of the rare skills section) and am 34 years old - we got 140 points without a job offer and with my wife contributing 0 points. We did the entire EOI process online.

As Nicola ppointed out, the actual filling on of the ITA forms is straightforward. The major things you need to get are your XRays/Medicals and your Police checks. These are the things that should take the longest times - everything else is a case of getting stuff that you should alreayd have (eg: Marriage Certificate, Employment records, etc.) You can download the medical forms from the NZIS website, and the police check forms from your local station.

Our XRays were £70 each from BUPA and our Medicals were about £230 for the two of us. for the medicals they are looking for any diseases that will cause a strain on their National Health Service. My wife had her thyroid removed and takes Natural Thyroxin, as well as Calcium and other such stuff - but she had no problem with the medicals. However, we had the "old style" forms, which have now changed - although I think the major changes are what they look for in the blood samples - Syphillis, HIV, AIDS, etc. - again, anything that might need hospital treatment. They don't want you to be a drain on their economy!

The police checks were £10 each - again, they simply state if the police have any record of you on the PNC - points on your driving licence do not count and are not shown on the forms!

The EOI itself carries a cost, but I forget how much - about £15 IIRC. The ITA costs £510 (And that is for the ITA as a whole, NOT per person, much to our relief!)

If you get accepted, then there is a £100-ish Migrant Levy as well (Not sure if this is in total or per person as we haven;t got that far yet!)

If you are seriously looking to do this then I would get your medicals/XRays and police checks done ASAP - our ITA application was ready except for the police checks which took 20 working days to come through (They quoted us 40 days!)

Our ITA Package included:

My Degree Certificate
Letter from my employer stating start date on company headed notepaper
Latest Pay Slip to show I still worked there (I've only worked for one employer since leaving University 10 years ago)
Birth Certificates for each of us
Marriage Certificate
Joint Bank Account statement from this month and 12 months ago as proof of living together
Police Checks
Medicals in a sealed envelope
Both passports

I photocopied everything (Except the Medicals) and took them into NZ house myself - they stamped each photocopy and returned the original documents to me. they didn;t say I had left anything out!

Good luck if you do decide to go forward - and I would say don't go with an agent unless you are not comfortable with filling in forms and ensuring all documentation is in place.

I agree with what has been said before, I was about to use an agency but this site saved us the money, people here have gone through it all and can answer most questions or have an idea of where to look.

Costs, can't remember them all, but know Andy had to have an extra private dr appt due to something on the X-ray, ended up costing extra £900 so have some contingency funds.

EOI costs,
ITA costs
Medicals (about £200 each I think)
Police Certs (about £10 each)
Visas PR (£347 for 3 of us).

Good luck

Thank you guys for the reply especially Aydon that really helps.

my girlfriend who is the mian applicant has just sent off her qualifications to be asscessed by the nzqa, then she will register with the applicable body, she's a English teacher.

I think I will get the police checks and medicals done as soon as she is registered with the teaching body.

We might have to apply for PR in NZ though, as there is no job offer yet (haven't even tried to find employment waiting until she's registered. we might have to do the WHV option though) does having police check forms and medicals from this country (UK) still be valid if we applied 5 months later when we are in NZ or would they want police checks and meidcals from NZ itself because we would effectivley be living there.

Sorry if i am confusing the issue. :)

I think the Medicals and Police Checks last for 6 months before you have to redo them. I would guess that they are valid until that time no matter where you are, but I am not certain on that point.

Yes the police checks are valid for 6 months

I can't be certain but Jon didn't need police checks for nz when he applied here because I think you have to have lived here for more than 12 months, hence only needed police check from the UK

I am sure someone could clarify

this thread may help as well...

Yep, I'd suggest doing everything yourself. We're doing it too and we're Dutch. We find it very straightforward as well. The only downside to the whole process for us 'non-native-English-speakers' is that they make us take a IELTS test :( Even if you work with a multinational and speak/write English all day!

Anyway, good luck! :nice1

Thanks all the responses guys,

jubjub thanks for the link, our cost will be no where near that though, we are taking nothing with us just backpacks, we dont have a dog, and the flights will be the cheapest we can find The most I have ever spent going to aus is 450 quid. So hopefully around this figure would be nice. So it should be around 1k for the PR then thats good news was considering aus at one point and this is 3500k to go there on a PR.

Just sent the documents to NZQA today for analysis, so hopefully should get them back soon then its onwards and upwards.
