Is there anyone who knows anything about importing new goods in your container. Are you supposed to pay import duties on that?

We're thinking of a trip to IKEA :nice1 before moving to NZ and we would like to keep everything in its original package.

Hope to hear...

How about buying your goodies from ikea sooner than later and keep the reciepts to show customs if they are picky, unpack them from the wrapping and store them, then if your container arrives in NZ 6 or 7 months later the goods are not new? just a thought good luck

Thanks! That's just what I was looking. Not the answer I like though.. :no Looks like you have to pay quite some import duties...

So we just need to go ahead and go to IKEA now and sit on that new sofa for a couple of months and then stick it in a container :laugh

nah just buy them a couple of mths before, unpack them, re-pack them (then you can say that you kept the packaging for the trip out!) ;)

Generally customs don't inspect every item in the container. I would have thought a few newish bits would be ok, but if you turn up with a container full of new flat pack furniture then I would have thought it might attract notice. Don't forget a lot of people here make a living importing goods for resale.
