Thats brill, congratulations to you Steve and the kids.
How are your children taking all this excitment? Planning there leaving parties yet? I was wandering what age yours were and how they are coping with the big move plans.
Have to say that whilst we have not hid anything from our eldest, considering he is only 4 we haven't directly told him of our plans either. We don't plan to until the house looks like its selling. A 'some time in the furture' time scale doesn't realy work with him. He's only just go the hang of 7 day in a week.
Enjoy your celebrations.

Firstly, thank you to everyone for your good wishes and dancing bananas!
Secondly, Questor, Steve has that task facing him now, whereas I told my Dad and sister at the time when we were invited to submit ITA. Dad took it soooo diffferently than I expected, saying what a great opportunity it is and how he would do the same if he was our age! I had expected him to plunge into a depression and not speak to me for months, so I was mighty relieved. Amazingly, my sister took the news really badly and could not bring herself to talk about NZ with me at first. However, she has handled it in her own time and her own way, and is now very excited for us and will talk about it easily and openly.
Steve waited on the grounds that there was nothing concrete to tell at that stage and now there is. His situation is compounded by the fact that his younger brother announced last year that he and his wife and kids were moving to Florida permanently and his dad took that very hard.
Anyway, good luck with breaking your news,
Gil

Congratulation! Well done you lucky, lucky things. :raebanana :raebanana I have just gone so green!!
This post filled me with a sense of “That is EXACTLY like it was for me. I thought my Mum and Dad would be unhappy and my sister would be cool. Totally the other way around. Dad said exactly the same as yours “what a fab opportunity, if I was a bit younger etc. :D My sister was more “How could you, what about me!”
I can’t wait to be where you are now. Is the meet still on for Sunday? We can make it a celebration for you. :cheers

Yes Willsken, the "what about me" bit is because you have left them to do all the running around looking after the parents. Bit like my brother, same thing. But if we all did that the population would be very static.
Good luck Steve with the impending revelations.....

Shame of it is I would love to take my parents with me and I think one of the only reasons they wouldn't come is because they wouldn't want to leave my sister on her own. She's divorced with a little girl. :roll

Just seen this post. Welldone - hope the celebrations went well and no thick heads this morning. We got ours a week before I gave birth, so wasn't able to celebrate it properly (must make up for that actually).
I see you're in the same position as us with our house. We got PR back in August, but we are getting nowhere with the house and the market has now gone dead in the run up to xmas. It's really frustrating - the NZ dream is so near yet so far. Just need some b***ard to buy the house. Good luck with yours.
It's funny all the talk about telling the family of your plans. When Craig told his family, it was just like that advert for a certain mobile phone co that's out at the moment ie 'Dad, we're emigrating to New Zealand' - 'Splendid, good-bye'. Not an eyelid batted - in fact just very miffed that no-one seems at all bothered we're going!
Good luck with your house sale and plans. Where are you planning to go to again? (I'm sure the question's been asked many times, so apologies).

Our plans are to go to Auckland, Howick area actually. The kids are 17, 14, 9 and 8 and all bar the 14 year-old are dead excited. The news of PR hit her hard and she spent mos of the evening dissolved in tears. However, she was quite perky this morning, so I think she'll be fine by the time we go.
House: aaagh! I know there is a buyer out there somewhere who will fall in love with our house and make us an offer of the full asking price.......just waiting for them to come along.:D
Good luck with your house sale Kate!

Well I've done it :clap. Last night after our Wales & West meet up I found my Dad waiting for us outside our house, wondering quite why we had a "for sale" sign displayed. This led to emergency procedures, whereby all children were sworn to silence and me and Popsy were deposited down the pub by Gil. Over the course of several pints I then told him our "news".
Whilst he has described it as a real bodyblow, he has not once tried to change our mind or suggested we're making the wrong move. In fact, I would go as far as to say that he is being enormously supportive to us. At the moment, he's sitting at the Dining Room table looking at a NZ property magazine and positively drooling at the properties, scenery etc.
All in all a difficult job now done. When we thought about moving to NZ, telling my Dad was the only thing in the negative column, so please to have got it over with.
He's a reluctant traveller, but he has already agreed to come out and see us.
Phew!!!!!!!

Bet that's a load off for you? Well done on delivering the news, and you know what, your dad turning up like that and seeing the "for sale" sign was probably the best way for you to introduce the subject, rather than arranging to meet him, and then going through an agonising wait!!
Well done again to you all on getting PR!!!!!!!

Gil and Steve, congratulations on acheiving PR status :raebanana :raebanana . And I'm sending positive house sales vibes in your direction! And I bet your Dad knowing what you're up to takes a weight off Steve! Bit of a short, sharp shock though. Sounds like he's taken it really well.
