Hi all,
It's just over 3 weeks now before I set off on my journey - destination Wellington - and am compiling lists of things I need to do before I leave. One of the items on the list is about extra baggage allowances. I seem to recall that this was discussed on the forum before, but can't seem to find it at a very quick glance!
I am flying with Air New Zealand via LA and am aware of their 2 x 32kg allowance, but I seem to recall someone mentioning something about getting a bit extra if you are emmigrating/moving to NZ long term? Would appreciate any information on this, if there is any!
Cheers
Dee

E mail or ring Air NZ direct. If you've got PR/WTR visa then they should up it straight away :yes

When I flew with Air NZ on a work to residence visa, they required documentation to that effect. It then transpired that I had to actually prove I had permenant residency which of course I didn't have for another 2 years. End result was no extra baggage. Only applies if you've actually got PR now.

Nervous? Moi? Not a bit! hehehehehe Thank goodness for Rescue Remedy!! ;)
I am, however, concerned about my lack of organisation. Besides booking and paying for my tickets, and writing a list of things to do, I have done nothing!!! Ah sure, I still have 2 full weekends left to sort all that out!!
Thanks for all the information on extra baggage allowance! I guess I don't qualify seeing as I am not going on PR, WTR, and all those other "permanent visa" acronyms! Oh well, will just have to cram it all into 64kg!!
Cheers

Because I booked my flights seperately I am limited to 20KGs on My flight from Auckland to Queenstown. I will have to wear all my clothes onto the plane :)

You'll be fine! No need to be nervous! I am travelling on my own too, but you always get to meet nice people either on the plane or during stop-overs!! And Queenstown is a stunning place - one of my fav places on South Island! Am envious of you going there! We'll definitely have to make a trip down there again at some stage next winter!

We came in with Air NZ on the transatlantic (via LAX) luggage allowance but then had to get a domestic flight through to Gisborne. As Hubby is a GP we had to spend two days in Auckland first in order for him to do his NZ medical reegistration, so we weren't even going straight on to Gissy and we knew we had wayyyyyyyy more than 20kgs each! But they were great, they just asked who we had come into the country with and when we said Air NZ they just checked us through, 4 massive and heavy suitcases an all. no problem :)
