Hi Diny

I'm still up at 1.15 am, but can you answer a question for me please. I have just heard what sounded like an air-raid siren going off. This is the second time I've heard this - should I be evacuating?????

What the heck is it???

Oh No !!! Not THE siren !!!!!

Don't worry - it's the local fire brigade. They still call the firemen into the station by means of the siren which is what you've hearing.

Now I guess you think I'm really knowledgeable knowing that. Truth is I asked PB (who incidentally flew into Manchester this morning after being up for over 24 hours, he was fast asleep in bed - I needed the answer - so I woke him up and asked him) .....due to recent bad language restrictions, I can't tell you the exact answer he gave.

See you soon.

3.12am and I'M just up out of bed after one of those "sit bolt upright" moments :wah

Ah, the fire sirens - scared me half to death the first time I heard it... they have a "practise" siren every Tues at 7pm here to set your clocks by!!

Now... where's that bottle of Port.....

Boy you made me smile, this brought back memories to our stay in Nelson in April.
:P
Yes, similar thing happened where we were staying (rented a holiday home, as staying with my parents for 2 weeks wouldn't have been a good idea). Finally had the girls in bed, figured out how the 3 channels on the TV worked when 'all hell broke loose' :?

Took us a few days, with a few more sirens to figure out what it was

LoL. I dont know about sirens, but we did have a giggle when in Nz recently. The village we stayed in up on Coromandel has no pub/bar etc, although they do have a bootle shop.
When the shop is closed however, the only place you can get a beer is the fire station. Our host informed us, as if it were normal practice, that if we were to wander down the beach and see the door open on the station, then a few cold ones were on the menu. They assured us that nobody would drink on duty, but it did seem strange to say the least.

Ah no worries at all ..... he is a VERY laidback fella - simply opened one eye - told me the answer and then fell asleep again - bless him.
