Hello,

This question is especially for people from US.
How long it took you to get your FBI report??
We’re waiting a month so far, and we have to submit ITA next week, so we kind of inpatient.

The time frame given by FBI is 6-8 weeks. I got the finger print results exactly on the last day of the 8th week. However I still did not get the police clearance certificate from my home country. As my medicals were about to expire, I contacted NZIS and asked them for advice. They asked me to send the ITA with the things I have. I sent my ITA packet with a letter stating that I will send the Police certificate from the home country once it is available.

You can always call them and ask your status. They are one of the nicest people to talk to and they will let you know. Sometimes in any case, you can actually request the time frame that you need to get back the report.
Good luck

Somewhere on the FBI website it said to put on your form and on the envelope if you had an immigration deadline. We did this, but I'm not holding my breath, as we only have 4 weeks from the time we sent in our fingure prints before our ITA is due. However, there was something on the NZ Immigration's London website that said to just send in everything else if you're still waiting for the police check. It looks like that's what we'll end up doing.
Good luck, and do let us know when it arrives.

Thanks for your advice. I will tray to contact FBI and check on the status. We were told the same thing by London branch to send whatever documents we have and sent the rest later. I am just afraid it can delay the process because we are waiting for some more documents (also NZQA reports - we should get them any day, and my birth certificate from my home country).

A related question:
Where do you go to get fingerprinted for the FBI check? Do you just call your local police station?

You could go to the local police station. Best thing is to go to private services. Look in the yellow pages for private finger printing services . They charge around 10-15 dollars for taking your finger prints on the card and typing your information on the cards.

Cool. Thanks.
Now, if I just can pass the background test. Was a bit wild in my youth....

We actually went to local police station - no charge. But first you need to get FBI forms - we got it directly from local FBI office but they can also send it to you.

I also went to my local police station and used the finger print cards they had. No charge and easy but I live in a small town. I don't recall exactly how long it took to get them back from the FBI but I think it was around 7 weeks. Good luck.

We called our local police station. They had a specific time, one day a week when they do fingerprinting. They had the Federal cards and charged us $10.

When I called the FBI to get the "applicant card" on which your fingerprints are taken, they directed me to their web site, where you can print out a form to take to the police station or other fingerprinting service. The web form does caution, however, that the police station or other fingerprinting service may wish to use their own card stock for fingerprinting purposes.

I went to local police station and I use the Illinois Police Report forms.

When I send it to FBI I put a cover letter stating the purpose of the report and also my deadline and with in 3 weeks I got the result.

Yes there was something on the NZ Immigration's London website that says if you're still waiting for the police check you can submit you ITA.

I hope this help.

We went to our local police precinct (cost was about $8) and it took around six weeks. At first the desk sergeant on duty refused saying it was an immigration issue and we should contact the INS and the FBI. We went back a few days later and had no problem. Different desk sergeant.

Richard,

Ignore the 'print your own' card at the FBI website. The locals don't like it. Whoever you get to do it will have the cards in stock, there is a standard form they use. Only thing we ran into is that not a lot of places do it, police in the LA area did not do it we ended up going to a school. Who only did it one day a week and it took something like 3 weeks to make the appoitment. We used to live in San Pedro so we were neigbors until a few months ago!

CLG,

Hail Pedro!

Thanks for the tip. I'll try calling some Long Beach police stations before resorting to the private fingerprinting services.

Mine arrived exactly 60 days after they received the request. Last day of the 8th week, just as they said.

Do you have phone number where I could cheeck the status? I tried looking at their website but found nothing - just info that it takes 6-8 weeks.
