Hello all,

I’m visiting New Zealand for three weeks from 24 Nov 05. It’s my first time over and the main priority is seeking a permanent job offer. I’m in IT/Project Management and have some meetings arranged at employment agencies in Auckland and Wellington. Please can I ask for some advice on a few things:

- Where in Auckland can I buy a pay as you go, (prepaid), mobile phone SIM card.
- Are there any particular documents NZ employers ask to see, (i.e. berth/marriage certificates etc.).
- Where are any reasonable Internet cafes or wi-fi hot-spots in Auckland and Wellington.
- Is Christchurch worth visiting for IT related jobs.
- Any suggestions where to get cheap, short notice flights between the cities.
- Any suggestions on making the best use of my time for job hunting.

I’ll really appreciate any advice offered. We are totally committed to emigrating to NZ, but I’ll need a permanent job offer.

Thanks,

John

Hi John, and welcome aboard the good ship ENZ. I am sure someone will give answers to most of your queries pretty quick, but for now, check out this link for some info on wifi hotspots around NZ;

I had no problem finding places to get on the internet - when in doubt find a backpackers - they'll have internet, often just drop in a few coins and away you go. then I just went to airNZ or quantas' websites to figure out flying... I'm sure once the NZ side of the world wakes (Its 9:30 eastern America time for me) someone will write in about cheaper ways to find flights. I remember paying about $100NZ one way domestic and was booking fairly last minute.

Airfares - try these

Sim cards, available from any Vodafone shop, just make sure your phone is unlocked before you come over, think they are $35, and I am sure there was a shop in the airport? Other option is you can get a phone and (prepaid/pay as you go) sim for about $99 at the moment.

Internet, most shopping malls have internet access cafes, or you could try the libraries.

Job hunt stuff, dont know much, but hubby bought his certificates to prove his qualifications and written references from past employers/and copy of current contract. Can't see them needing birth certs etc.
