I wonder if anyone can summarise what is required of an NZ employer for them to employ a person with no existing visas? I thought I read somewhere that they had to prove they had advertised the job for 3 months but I can't find any ref to this on the NZIS website....

Thanks

Hi Moorf,

In brief, an employer must satisfy the NZIS that they have tried to fill the vacancy by adverising the position and that no NZ citizen/PR was suitable for the job. They then apply for an approval in principle to offer the job to an immigrant. This entails the employer loding an application, paying a modest fee, and supplying them with evidence of their attempts to fill the position, along with details of the intended sucessful applicant. The NZIS will then perform a job market survey based on this information and usually notify the employer of the decision about 60 days later. If sucessful they get an approval in principle document which they send to the applicant who then lodges their application for a work visa. A rigmarole I know....we went through it to get our LTWV's prior to our depature from the UK.

Not sure if you are refering to a short term work visa or someone looking at getting PR eventually?

question karl:

won't that amount of work on a new zealand employer be too much trouble for them? i mean they could just refuse to give the job to immigrants because of all the things they need to prove. just wondering, so that in case i go over there and look for a job and was rejected, i would know it was because i wasnt qualified and not because i was an immigrant.

:no

Agreed!

No I agree it's not an employer friendly system at the moment but those are the rules!

Believe me we went through this to get our LTWV before we got our PR.
