Has anyone pre bought a mobile phone before arriving?

I don't really need to use it, just need to have a number. A mobile should be easier to get than a landline as we don't know at this stage where we will live.

We need a contact no for advertising our business. The advert has to be in the yellow pages before the book closes in five weeks, but I don't have a contact no to put on the ad.

I feel that I'm getting organised by arranging the ad now but my OH says its too previous. Only if we don't get in now we won't get into the book until next year.

If you were looking for a company would the yellow pages be your first point of call?

Probably not as I try to go by word of mouth and tbh I'd be supicious if the company only had a mobile number rather than a landline as well. But that's just me!

Sorry no to be more positive :)

Personally I use the online yellow pages. You can get in that at any time (at least you could in the UK). Do you have a website?

I too wouldn't be keen on a company with just a mobile number either, but that would depend on how much more competition there was on the page. If you were one of many I'd pass it by, if you were one of three I'd probably be calling them all for quotes anyway.

I am a great believer in doing things right and not for the sake of deadlines. Sure, Y'Pages is a great advertising medium, but not if your ad isn't up to scratch, it'll just give the opposite impression.

You could consider using an answering service that many call centres offer. They will answer calls on your behalf and then pass on the information/message/contact info (by email if necessary) which means your phones are professionally manned and you can get them to get you a business number (or freephone) that can then be transferred to your premises when you arrive for good continuity - and it allows you to get your ad in the Yellow Pages with a proper phone number.

Good point voice.

Just need to get some work in the pipeline so we can get underway straight away.

Thanks for the link jubjub.

Moorf it all sounds like the voice of reason, and I feel the same about mobile no's. I always imagine them living in a caravan. oops.

Guess like you say I should calm down a bit and do it all properly. Our website is under construction, I'm just panicking about the NZIS sending us back to the UK cos we weren't good enough. There will be plenty of other advertising opportunities. Thanks everyone.

I would rather email for more info than ring a mobile number on a website for all the reasons above, including the caravan one. :D

We have just transferred over here with our business and rather than have a mobi number on the website, had the usual 'contact us' link. We thought the mobi number looked unprofessional , so in the UK, if we were ever away from the office phone, calls were diverted to our mobi and we picked up the cost of the call.

Telecom offer the same facility here.
