No honestly Julie you go first :yes I will save you one for when you get here and we can have a competition to see who can keep it in their hand the longest :clap
Jules
Well alright, but only save one if it comes complete with a pre-competition litre bottle of vodka.....just to steady the nerves you know.
:uhoh OMG, what have I started?
:D

Yuk! Hope you don't get too many of those hanging around...
BTW, we saved particularly huge one recently to show a friend who's crazy about spiders (just wanted to check it wasn't some new species... it wasn't, just a particularly large female). She says if you're going to catch one in a container to show to somebody, put a wet piece of tissue paper in as well, so it's got something to drink.
[Although personally I couldn't give stuff whether the thing is kept alive or not... oh, alright, I can't stand them but I wouldn't like to kill one - honest!]

I have sitting next to me a.....................................
WHITE TAIL SPIDER  in a container with the lid on!!!!!
I was going into the kitchen last night to make a drink and I saw it run across the work top, I shouted to Steve "there is a spider on the top", he came and had a look and said "it is a white tail", I couldn't believe it!!! He caught it in the container and it is now sitting next to me. I am going to take it to work with me and release it there. I work at the airport so I will put it on the runway and wait for a jet to take off!!!!! bye bye mr spider. :exit

Mash it to a pulp on the patio so it doesn't have a chance to breed/bite/swim to Chch...

I have been told that you are not supposed to kill them because they release some kind of scent that lets other white tails know they are dead. You should apparently just catch them and get rid of them somewhere else.
Dont know how true that is though

It's taken a lot of restraint not to post a long string of expletives after that picture. Have you used some kind of freakish zoom effect? Please tell me you have, even if you have to lie.
Good God!

It is with much regret that we have to announce the demise at 17:15 of KatieJay of Essex, who was reading an innocuous thread about flykillers, when she collapsed in shock at the sight of a dirty great beastie posted by the dastardly Moorf..............at least that's what they would have been writing about me had I not had the good sense to take a giant swig of Australian red to calm me nerves. Cor blimey, Moorf!! :wah

No, no zoom or editing - although I confess Woz took the pic as I couldn't (wouldn't?) get close enough.
Said spider was found later that day having been killed by the spider spray - it's bum had kind of exploded on the doorstep :o

Don't know if anyone heard this one, but on Radio 2 this morning, Sarah Kennedy announced that conkers (horse chestnuts in other words) get rid of spiders! They can't stand them apparently, so if you scatter a few around your rooms, you'll have a scary-free zone.......... I've done me bedroom for starters. Luckily there are lots of chestnut trees at work so I filled my bag with them this morning - the guys on reception are convinced I've finally lost it. So if you've got chestnut trees in NZ, give it a try - no chemicals, and you can play with them when you're done........
