That sounds like a good day out Sal, are you going? I believe that there is another annual Highland games up the way a bit in Waipu. The original settlers were mainly Scots, and they have hung on to their roots in a big way.
Irish beer at a Scottish event........well, it all goes down the same way. Wish we were there, as I am of scottish decent, and Sarahs late dad was a Belfast boy. We could have the best of both worlds. ;)

Yup, we are probably going for as long as my little feet can carry my currently enormous belly... junior can get his first hearing of bagpipes, albeit muffled (the best way if you ask me)....

LoL.Maybe you could insulate your frontal protrusion to provide some sound proofing. The little one would thank you for it one day.

Well, we went along for a little while, watched the Mayor of Auckland do the opening ceremony, listened to a couple of pipe bands, and watched some girls doing the dancing. Also saw a bit of caber tossing.
Sorry did not take camera :( , so no pics
We even found the Clan Johnstone tent, and could have marched with them in the opening parade :yes . Shame we did not wear our tartan scarf/tie hubbys folks bought us as a leaving pressy.....
Even found the holy grail for hubby of potato scones and lorne sausage (for the unitiated this is flat/square slice of sausage that fits perfectly into a roll!). Guess whats for brekky round here tomorrow :nice1 .
