Just thought I would post a fresh update for people to find easily. My husband just bought a DVD/VCR player in Wellington, included was capability to play multi-channel, but you should make sure before buying. He brought down an old video (Caddyshack!) and a new DVD from the States, and they both played just fine. So bring your American-bought DVDs AND your videos, and buy a new player in NZ (it was about $300 NZ, and he says the quality is just fine). :cool

Hi Allison! :cool
Right you are! We bought a Sony DVD and VCR here. The DVD player is multi-region and will play discs from anywhere. The VCR is PAL and NTSC and will play video tapes from anywhere as well...except for French and some South American tapes as they are Secam.
I have yet to see a DVD player that wasn't multi-region. Good ones run around NZ$250 but you can find them for as little as NZ$60.
Hope you're doing well! P.M. me with your details when you get time! :nice1
