Ow, that HURT! No, not the blood test, the cost! We had our medicals yesterday and for the 4 of us, bearing in mind Tom is 8 and Matt is 12, we paid £4 short of £500 :wah

I don't know why, but I really didn't expect it to be SO high. We haven't even paid for the x-rays yet!

I'm panicking now about the results of the blood tests. I really wish I hadn't had that extra glass of wine on Saturday night!! :D

What a blow......I didnt think that they would cost that much !! :wah

Charlosparky told me to shop around as they found that the cost of medicals varied considerably.

Oh well, another job on next weeks 'to do' list..........

Ouch! At least they're over Nicola! Such a relief to get each stage completed. :D
Zardell, check out Dr Million in Manchester. We saved £550 on the price quoted for a family of six by a South Wales practice, even taking into account petrol, overnight stay in Manchester etc.!! Plus he was really nice.

Wow gil that was a good save. Ours came to £1270 for a family of 6 at the BUPA in nottignham at the end of our road. Went to Stoke instead for Just under a grand, 50 minute drive away and 2 weeks wait instead of 5weeks (BUPA said "sorry the emmigration dept only work tues and thurs- :no no we dont send you any information untill you have booked- yes thats 5 weeks") Mmm thanks. And the Stoke guys were really helpful too. :nice1

Going on Wednesday 30/11 for bloods, Thursday 1/12 for medicals a family of 4,£521. (North East England). Had X-rays another £100, and have since had reply from NZQA saying they have received my paperwork then promplty lost some of it, thankfully it has turned up again and now they require verification of my awards from City and Guilds even though I sent all of my original certificates as well as copies. Money, money, money will it ever end???? I'm sure it's all going to be worth it in the long run!!
I hope we get accepted after all of this. At this rate we will have to sell house anyway to pay for all the paper work if we get in or not.

Yes it does feel like you are carrying round your money in a sieve for a while, especially when the big bills hit like the medicals, ITA fee, migrant levy fee, air fares. :(

But, it is worth it and we looked upon it as an investment in our future.

When that plane touchs down, it all fades away quite quickly. :clap :clap

Thos of you who went to Dr Millions - may i ask just how much it was? He's not too far away from us and if he's cheap then I think we could be going to him as well :)

Thanks Gil for the advice. Phoned Dr. Million this morning and booked in. Hey, guys...HE HAS CANCELLATIONS FOR DECEMBER and loads of appointments available for January. They do it 3 days a week, Tues, Wed,Thurs.
Now, the cost :-
Medical........£120 each
Xray............£50 each
Blood test.....£100 each (Thats because u need 6 tests now. New NZ ruling)

These prices were quoted for adults, dont know if child prices are different.

I have a question.. we havent got any medical forms. The doctor hasnt got any either. Do we download them from NZIS website ?

Cheers,

Julie

Went to see Dr Million last Thursday and can recommend him highly. Whilst we had a couple of hiccups with appointment changes, I was very impressed - he is incredibly thorough and a hugely funny chap. He recommended that we get a couple of additional reports in advance, to avoid subsequent requests from NZIS.

Costs are pretty much as suggested elsewhere - £660 in total for 2 x X Ray, 2 x full medical with blood tests and 2 x children's medicals (£45 each if I remember rightly). you also have the advantage of having the medicals and X-rays all at the same time. A word of warning though - cash or cheques only, no credit cards. Something I learnt to my cost after assuming that the present Mrs Shaker had her cheque book with her. Had to make an emergency plea to the bank so that I could get the cash.

12 years and over £90 (under 12 £45) I didn't understand why Toms was so much cheaper as the only difference between him and Matty was he didn't have his blood pressure taken.

Bloods £136.08

HIV 25.98
Hep B 12.07
VDRL 12.99
Full blood count 7.00
Liver Function Test 5.00 (The one that scared me most!!!!! :D )
U + E 5.00

Then there was a strange £40 charge that we have no idea what it was for and have no intention of asking until we have the all clear on everything! :laugh

These tests were done by Dr Palmer in Trethomas. She was very nice but very thorough. We all went in together and it took just under 2 ½ hours. :yes

By way of a postscript to those thinking of using Dr Million in Manchester.

We had the medicals last Thursday, he told us the bloods might tak a week, and hissecretary phoned yesterday to say the reports were all ready to pick up - excellent service. I'd mentally banked on around 10 days but it was 7 days almost to the hour.

Highly recommended

(Oh, the envelope was heavily sealed too - I'm assuming that's a good sign!)

The £40 may well be for special delivery postage. OUR doc forgot to mention it to us, I think it was £25 and the receptionist said, as he had forgotton to tell us, he could pay. OOOPs.
