Nobody knows. Im simply on "Annual Leave"
Im taking my portfolio to NZ to tout for work/raise my profile. After all nobody hires people they've never met. At least not in my business.
Lots of you here seem to have got job offers from your armchairs :) I'm baffled at how you pulled that off.
Anyway, I leave next Friday night via Seoul! I've tried not to draw attention to myself as I've been printing out my designs at work/mailing CVs etc.
Got some folks to see in Auckland then Wellington (where we really wanna be) trip is 10 days - 7 in NZ. Think the short trip is gonna spin me right out though!
I think the hardest thing is to walk back into work after I return and keep my mouth shut.
Wish me luck
Lil

Good luck funkstar!
You definately get a much better response by actually being here. What line of work are you in?
Go to the yellow pages (nz) site and contact companies and recruitment agencies to tell them you're going to be over here - they might want to line up meetings with you if they're interested. Might as well get the most out of you trip!
Where are you from?

Funkstar,
Very best of luck :hopeso know what you're saying about it being hard to keep quiet. My hubby is going to Christchurch this Thursday, for 10 days of interviews and meetings. He went into the office briefly yesterday (Sunday) to print a number of documents.
Hope all goes well for you. Keep posting with updates :nice1

Thanks guys + girls.
Jodie - yeah already did the yellow pages thang.
Have made contact with about 15 design agencies (my business) and have been "grooming them" since June.
An email, then a phonecall, then every 3 wks later the same on a rolling basis until now - think by now they remember who I am.
Have 1 job interview but the rest is speculative, mixing the 2. Both recruitment agencies and direct employers.

Funkstar that is fab news :nice1
A few Questions
when you said the timing is not right. When do you plan the move?
I ask this because my husband is applying for a job which is exactly what he does here BUT it's too soon :wah .
We planned on leaving blighty next Septemberish.
But if it means we are there sooner so be it.
Next question the job in Auckalnd how long will they keep it open for you?
Cheers
Jo

The other job might be too late, only because the job offer in AKL will need an answer before the WLG job have finished recruiting. Both start Jan/Feb 05.
not sure how long they will keep it open, you cant look a gift horse in the mouth can you

Congrats on the job offer, nothing better than walking into an interview knowing that you already have something in the bag!
The timing things is so tricky... I was only able to pull off the 'armchair thing' by coming to a conference here a year ago (proving I was a real person!), then sending off resumes to openings making it clear that I wasn't going to be free till a certain date. Eventually there was someone who had seen me at the conference & had someone need to take leave... It felt like a million in one chance though...

Same with my industry, IT&T, difficult to get a job from the armchair, same response, see you when you get here.
