Hello, my name is Leslie. Currently living in Colorado with my husband and two little girls. My husband is an 8th grade science teacher. I'm a former social studies teacher before the girls. We're looking at moving to New Zealand and so I'm in charge of the researching. What a great forum. I've really enjoyed reading all of the information! Thanks. I'm looking forward to getting know others out there in this big world.

Welcome to the forum Leslie - if you get stuck with anything just ask a question - everyone here is very helpful, and you'll pick up some tips you didn't even know you'd need to know!!

Any idea when/where you'd be looking to go over?

Thanks for the warm welcome. We're shooting for 2007. My oldest daughter will be four then and I think we'll need that much time to get organized. But we'll see. We're looking forward to the opportunities New Zealand may provide.

It's freezing at our place but the snow hit everywhere but here, which is nice but if it's cold I'd rather have it be snowing too. Much prettier.

We love Colorado, definetly a beautiful place to live. Especially because we love the outdoors. But we're thinking we need a change to somewhere other than the U.S. It's sometimes a bit frustrating here politically and we love adventures. New Zealand seems like a great adventure. It has the outdoor things we like and it would be great to experience somewhere else teaching wise.
We're thinking the South Island. We live on the western slope of Colorado and grew up in Wyoming so we're used to small populations. The south island seems more our style. But any information you can give about the pros and cons of the south island would be much appreciated.
P.S. I love this forum!! :yes It's a great way to learn things and meet people. Thanks for making me feel so welcome!

We visited S. Island for a few weeks when we were there and loved it. What struck us right away was how few cars seemed to be on the roads. Going from Christchurch to Queenstown we could go for 45 minutes without seeing another car. This is via Mt. Cook, another tourist stop!
Though there aren't a lot of jobs on the West Coast, I was struck by the beauty of the area. The water was much more tropical looking than I expected. There was something about snowy mountains and blue blue water. Bliss....

Tigerlily-
The South Island sounds like my kind of place. In Wyoming it's hours when all you're seeing is antelope and sagebrush! Thanks for the valuable imput. :)
