I've just been reading the thread about NZ from an American perspective (very interesting by the way), and it just made me think, are words like colour/flavour etc in NZ spelled the English or American way? Also, do you have cheques or checks, tyres or tires, centre or center (I have actually been to NZ believe it or not!!)? Just wondered if the kids were going to have to relearn certain spellings! Doesn't matter at all - just curious!

Generally in NZ English spellings are in use.

A number of words are pronounced in the American way, though, e.g. Vitamins, Yoghurt, Data, Router.

It is possible to set Word spell checker to NZ English, which will show up any words which it considers to be misspelt under those particular rules.

You say Potato, I say Potato, Al Gore spells it Potatoe. (Was it Gore with the spelling gaffe, or am I being unkind to the man?)

Edit - just remembered - it was Dan Quayle. Sorry Mr Gore...

Somewhere on the forum there is a post with the way things are said (if not spelt)
Kuds = Children
Dick = Wooden patio
... etc

There doesn't appear to be many words that are spelt differently here.

It says it all to me that reports written in my office are generally reviewed by Brits or other nationalities who were educated in the UK for grammatical/spelling accuracy.

They don't appear to teach English properly here unlike in OZ.

Said the man who failed English Lit 'O' Level and only recieved a C grade in English language.
