We have been asked to pay the Moving Company $378 before the stuff arrives.

Wondered has anyone else had that, It also says that there may be additional costs if fumigation etc is required.

I am going to call the company tomorrow and ask a few questions but just looking for a bit of back up information before I talk to them.

There was a thread on this a while ago, claiming companies were overcharging for MAF inspections, if that is what they are asking for. Our MAF inspection fee the mover asked for was 150. Ask the movers to break out the costs for you a bit better.

Our MAF fees were about $440 plus $1000 of steam cleaning (again) etc and transporting. Ask for the invoices from MAF and Centreport and yes we had to pay up front too.

That seems a huge amount !!! The only additional amount we had to pay was $140.00 for MAF fees. Nothing extra to the moving company.

We used Britannia and NZ Van Lines ex-Wellington. They even sent up an extra small van (transit size) as we have a very long narrow drive leading up to our house. They unloaded the container on the road and then ferried everything back and forth to the house. 7 removal men - top class service and NO extra fees.

If I were you I'd be asking a few questions.
