Gang

I know its been threaded before, but this seems opposite to the norm:

We brought our Matsui widescreen, thinking - it's fairly new, so it should work...we get great sound but bad reception. Whereas the defunct tv usually gets pics but no sound...

Any ideas? We will do Sky if we have to but it's not a bonus spending an extra 40 bucks a month and at the moment we have a great DVD/Xbox monitor.

Could it really be just poor reception??? :cheers in anticipation

Hi captaixmas, it could be a number of things. If you getting good sound it doesn't sound like there is bad reception, although that is not always the case.
Where did u bring it from? UK?? It is just that the NZ version of PAL (the television system) is different to the UK's. If u set up the TV as normal when you arrived, it should lock on to the video channel which straddles the main channel 'carrier'. The sound channel is offset by a certain amount, which is where the difference lies.
Drop me a pm if you want, give me the info and I'll see what I can dig out.
But then again, it could be just down to poor reception or a dodgy connector.
There are ways around it by using cheapo video players to use as the tv tuner, keeping your tv on the video channel and using the tv to change channels.

Good luck!

Hi

Just thought to mention, my freight arrived from the UK last Thursday. Had my LCD TV which I bought beginning of 2004 in the UK - Dell brand- Turned it on, wouldn't work at all. Nothing on the screen. Was then told to buy a new TV or buy a video here and get it to work that way as TV's from UK don't work here. Couldn't bear the thought of spending that money and seeing the end of my TV which was quite expensive and fairly new. So sat down patiently, had a good think and treated it like a new TV. Started from scratch. Reset tv to factory settings, ect, pressed tv tuner, then channel search button and bingo got all the channels working nice and clear.

Just thought to mention that if your TV is new, you should be fine. Perhaps just start from scratch like i did. Just to think I was on the verge of boxing it up and putting at the back of the garage with all the junk. Good luck.
