How easy is it if you take your bike? My other half wants to know if it is worth taking his '99 R6 or sell it in UK.
The other concern is that it has an Akroprovic exhaust (full system) and would that be approved for WOF in NZ?? (it isnt stamped "not for road use")
I am sure some of you will have taken your beloved bikes!!!???

Hi BW and BW's OH
I'll try not to rant here as I'm sure you've read my other threads on our 3 vehicles. We thought we had researched throughly and mailed VTNZ etc. The red tape is never ending.
Deffo not an R6 but I love my CB500S as much, 1st bike an all and OH has Transalp XL600V both '98. TBH we didn't intend to ship them, just ran out of time to sell. They have arrived damaged with the keys and alarm fob missing.
One alarm has to be replaced and the damage repaired before VTNZ test it.
Check that it is compliant on the VTNZ site and keep the confirmation. They are hot hot hot and whilst they may 'pass' it you may not be able to register it without compliance from the manufacturer, this takes 10 days. Compliance testing was $ 240, registration was $320 ish for 6 months. That will be excluding any work that needs to be done that they recommend. I got quoted $95.50 for a wing mirror ex japan because mine is UK bike.
On the up side insurance I managed to get for $250 each fully comp, $250 excess for me and $300 for OH and he has been riding years, both on our full UK licences. Some places were between $350 and 600. fully comp.
Insurance is not compulsory here.
If you want a quote try Classic Cover, pm me if you want more details. Also register here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/ there is masses of help, Nessie put me on to them. Brits on there and people were helpful, have a good search. One guy worked for a insurance co and pm'd me with a quote!
TBH It really wasn't worth the hassle, biking is huge here, there is lots of choice, secondhand and dealer wise.
I'm sorry if this comes across as a bit negative, but our stuff arrived on 16/11 and so far we only have one bike on the road.

Thanks Smiler - glad the answer is honest!
We have been having definate 2nd thoughts about shipping our vehicles - esp if u have to keep them for 2 years.
Also - with the whole "salty roads" issue it may put kiwis off buying ex UK.
Thanks for your help!

No worries, thats what we are here for. :nice1
I did hear of someone selling their vehicle after 3 or 4 months and there has been no demand for the GST and it's been 6 months or more. ;)
We now have to wait 3 weeks to get the last bike in for its compliance test. ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!
