Just interested to see if anybody received any real job offers from the London and Manchester Expos this year? Has anybody accepted any offers and if so which company was it from?
I expected to hear of a lot more people getting offers.
It makes you wander how many companies were actively recruiting, and how many were simply collecting CVs.

i don't know about the expos, but my girlfriend was offered a job starting in febuary teaching secondary English. Goes to prove that you can secure positions from this side of the world. We turned it down though as we are not going until August next year. :)

I know that Auckland District Health Board were planning to recruit from these Expo's. My wife contacted them when she saw the advert to ask if they were coming to Scotland. They replied saying that the were and would interview her at the Glasgow Expo. She did not need to take up the offer as she has managed to secure a position prior to the Expo.

Hi guys
My OH and I are planning to move to NZ in April as a result of a job offer from the London Expo. My partner was offered a position with Rodney District council as a Building Control Surveyor. Auckland Council also offered him a position. All the councils who were at the Expo seemed quite serious on recruiting. I even had a call from a recruitment co. working with Christchurch council who I had registered with.... until I told them we were moving to Auckland!

Andy had an interview with OCG I think it was, (email on the computer in the container), They said would put him forward for things, and have our email but not heard from them.
Does anyone have a map of the expo in Manchester saying who the people were, the only one I found on the web, just showed the layout.
But he has now got an interview out here through an agency.

I can't think why people would spend a large ammount of money to fly people to the other side of the world, and run a stand if they weren't actively recruiting. If fact, if it's like any company I've ever worked for, they'll have to show an end product for the trip of X people in jobs, to justify the whole thing.
I think I may have said this before, but the NZ economy is techincally at capacity, the only factor restricting growth is lack of trained staff. With 600 people a week moving overseas from NZ, staff retention the biggest problem for most employers.
Unemployment is effectively zero here (unless you don't want to work). If you have decent skills and quals, and don't have something major wrong with you (like having 3 heads), employers will be fighting over you. You can be confident that anyone looking for staff is very serious about it.

I am going for a job which was found through Accent Health Recruitment - Pru has been great so far, particularly as there seems to be few Pharmacist jobs around at the minute - although I suppose that might change after Christmas

Can't say about this year but I had 4 job offers as a result of the 2004 Expo. The co. I worked for sent 4 or 5 directors over to recruit - not a cheap exercise.
There does seem to be a huge difference in the attitudes of NZ co.s though - the co. I work for would probably take you even with 3 heads if theu thought that you had a skill set that with a couple of months training could be adapted to fill a need.
My wife works in Technical recruiting and finds that a lot of employers won't entertain candidates who don't have the exact match of skills and experience they are seeking and that lots of smaller employers can be extremely narrow minded and a fair proportion blatantly discriminate, to the extent that they will specify No Maoris, Fijian Indians or Chinese. Given that NZ has equality laws similar to those of the UK it is almost unbelievable and pretty sad really.

Hi
Thought I'd share my experience of the EXPO in Manchester.
I met up with senior people from "AuditNZ" where I handed my detailed CV. They were impressed by my CV and indicated that they would get in touch me once they were back in New Zealand. Within 3 days, I received an email from the Human Resources Manager to confirm that they were interested in me and that they would be holding a tele conference interview within 7 to 14 days with senior members of staff.
A tele conference interview was arranged - 3 people interviewed me - Senior Director, Director of the area which I was interested in (Audit Manager) and the Human Resources Manager. They phoned me at the arranged time. The interview was intense and nerve racking to say the least and probed into my work experience, technical knowledge, management skills and family background. The interview lasted for almost an hour and was indeed handled professionally.
Within 2 days of the interview, I received an email expressing that they would be issuing me with a letter of Offer.
The Letter of Offer has now arrived and as I write this email, I am examining the Offer in detail. The package was better than I had expected - they are going to pay all relocation cost for my family and I (which should be in the region of at least £10k+), salary in excess of NZ$95k together with other perks. They are even helping my wife to find a position - what more can I say!!
Since, we have already received our PR's, we are just working out the logistics and timing of our move.
The moral of the story is, yes attending EXPO's do indeed work - after all as one person has already indicated, employers do not attend Expo just for the fun of it - they are indeed serious.
Hope this helps.
Regards
zardell
