This is my first post in here, I've read most of everyone elses though so thought it was about time to ask...
If anyone hears of someone in NZ looking for a classic bike mechanic please let me know as my partner is looking for work out there so we can apply for pr, with a job he will get 110 points and we are starting to panic as I have read in a post somewhere that the points will be going up and if they do then we will have to remain here in the UK.

Hello Marmite
Welcome to the forum. :clap :clap
I'll happily keep my eyes and ears open. What avenues have you been down already, I guess it's not the sort of job that is widely advertised?

Hi smiler :)
Well, I think I've found every agency on the net so far! I have managed to find a couple of jobs that we have enquired about but they haven't responded. The job needs to be outside Auckland, which suits us fine as we don't like city life. My partner's strengths are on the jap. bikes, he can hear an engine run and tell you whats wrong with it - I equate it to a mum hearing her baby cry and knowing whether its a hungry, hurt or angry cry :laugh . If we are going to make it over to NZ it would need to be in late 2006 (anytime from June onwards), I have a daughter,21, finishing an hnd and an elderly Labrador who is now suffering with arthritis :(

welcome marmite, have a search on Google NZ for Bike firms etc, some firms have websites, email addys etc, my OH found one such firm like this and he emailed them his CV, they actually replied. they offered him a job! and even when we said that we cant come till May at the earliest - daughter getting married, they said email us when your coming over as they still want to meet him!
Touring on bikes is popular with tourists, so I bet there will be good scope out there for your OH.....Good luck

Thanks for that katandbob - I will tell him to get his cv sorted, at the moment it's basically in letter format as he has no formal qualifications, it was on the job training. Did you have to go out there for an interview or was it done over the telephone?
smiler, I look forward to reading it

mostly email, my OH is a sheetmetalworker, so when we go out the firm want us to arrange an interview, has your OH thought of contacting NVQ about having his skills assessed, Marcia (forum member) mentioned this....google search, email? just a thought!
but if you go out on visitors visa found a job then applied over there? there are many ways of getting your dreams if you really want it

The shame is that he left college 3 weeks short of qualifying as he was offered a job, but up until that time I believe he was doing very well.
