Hi,

I am planning on bringing some UK electrical appliances across butttt I don't really want to have to buy a travel adaptor for everything. Is it possible to fit NZ plugs onto standard power cords? Is there anything I should know about voltages/cable colours etc...?

Thanks.

Just put NZ plugs on end of 4 gang UK extension leads and off you go....

I was happy doing it the way Sal suggested. But the OH has insisted on replacing all our plugs, hey ho, keeps Bunning in business. Yesterday he threw away about 20 uk plugs.

The only bit he is 'stuck' on now is the transformer thingys and I guess this is a voltage thing. He has a few things that need them and is going to build little tranformer boxes to make them work here.

He is ok with electrics  and confident to do this, but if you want me to ask why the bluudy hell he is doing it, I will.

It seems so much easy to do as Sal said.:laugh

Jaideco, just do as JubJub said. By far the cheapest option for any of us. NZ is the same voltage and frequency as UK, (240Volts 50Hertz in case you are interested!)

Deborah, tell him he is wasting his time - just do the extension cord thing with the NZ plug on the end. Plug your transformers into that. Although, that depends on how many transformer thingies you have?!
There is no need to provide step down transformers, so if he wants to build a project for his transformers he just has to nick the transformers out of the existing adapters.
I take it the majority of your transformer type things are for phone chargers etc?
Majority of the time you can dismantle them, but that is down to the individual.

Good luck

Steve

He is a man  :laugh Believe me I've said my piece, seems pointless to me. I just asked why again, it is possibly some complusive obsessive thing. :D

It's not phone chargers, it's stuff like the rechargable quake torch, the wireless router, some radio eqpt etc and tools in the workshop, not stuff that goes easily in one place on a extn lead.
I think he intends to use the guts of the things and build little casings, but this is now beyond my technical knowledge (and also seems pointless too).

I know he won't have any time to do it, so I'll just carry on using leads. :D
