Thanks to everyone that gave us their comments on whether to DIY or use a consultant. We have decided to submit the EIO ourselves (Would start now if the NZ website would load!!!) :( :wah
Heard a comment that you need to provide a full Birth Certificate (including mothers / father name) is this true??? We have got our "Normal Birth Certificates" but it doesn't include this, if we do need a "Full" certificate does anyone know where to get it?? Also is the Full BC number the same as the "Normal" BC number??
We are asked for taxation No. I assume this is the same as UK Nation Insurance No, but we are then asked for social security no. Is this the same as NI no. or does this not apply in UK and leave blank?
Recongised Work experience - Does anyone know how much detail you have to go into, to describe that your work experience is relevant to your degree? i.e. "my work experience is relevant to my recognised qualification as I must use elements of my qualification to conduct project management and project analysis, all my work experience has been conducted in the UK which is a comparable labour market to NZ". I know this sounds anally retentive but you know how important it is to get this correct!
I know some of these questions might seem obvious, but the last thing we need is to get thrown out on a technicality! Any help on the above would be greatfully received!!!
Speak to you all soon

Hi Sarah + Alex
Sorting the EOI It’s a pain isn’t it! The memory still makes me cringe.
The birth certificate that you have is a “free one”, if you want a full one you just pay the registrar a few quid (in the town/city) where you were born and they will give you one. You can do this over the phone if you’ve moved away from your place of birth. I think the number is different on a full birth certificate.
Your taxation number is just a tax reference, you can get this off of the document that is sent to you at the end of the tax year (well that’s what I did and all was well!) its not the same as an NI number.
The work experience, relative to your qualification, I just wrote “I carried out ……… which I think is relative to my recognised qualification”.
I hope that’s been of some help, I think the hardest thing to do is sit down and sort out the EOI. I found the people in the NZIS are really quite reasonable, and not the monsters you’d imagine, my advice is just go for it, if you have a slight error on the paper work they will help you sort it out. I also get the impression that if you tell them an outright lie they will wipe the floor with you! so my advice is be honest and put your EOI in as best you can, you will be forgiven any honest mistakes so its not worth panicking about the little details.
Collect the paperwork in a file and when your ITA turns up it’s all ready to go.
Kind Regards Bob
P.S and good luck, oh one other thing before you submit your EOI, just check the answers in those drop down boxes because you can change them when you scroll up and down

Hi Sarah and Alex.
When we filled in our EOI, we were thinking along the same lines as you as far as the NI number is concerned. We put our NI number in the 'tax' number and left the social security bit blank. When we got our ITA,they never questioned it, however, what Bob has written makes sense.
Just remember that whatever claims you make on your EOI, they will have to be proven/substantiated when you get your ITA. ( An ITA is basically the same as an EOI, but in printed paper form with all your pre-answered questions from your EOI already filled in. ) For example - if you are claiming 6 years work experience on the EOI, you will need to send work references that confirm those years from your employer/s. i.e. On letter headed paper -"I confirm that Mr. Joe Bloggs worked for this company as a XXXX from 1998-2005. His average hours of work were 40 per week."
What you are proposing to write on your EOI, relating to your work experience seems ok to me...cant remember what we put to be truthful, but it was something similar.
Believe me, if there is anything that the NZIS want from you they'll ask you for it, so dont worry.
I have just re-read this post and hope it makes sense to you !!
Good luck and welcome to the Roller Coaster. Like someone on this forum once said - its a heck of a ride with an amazing finish !!
:cheers
Julie

Hi there.
Filling out the EOI is easy enough just take it one chunk at a time. Bob is right about the tax Ni no. thing, i got my tax no off my self assesment. Passprt info is straightforrawd enough. Your statement re experience is spot on. Mine read " my experience as an electrician is necessary to carry out electrical installations and hold the job of electrician" :laugh Bloody obvious but they wanna see it in writing. You dont actually need to get much together to submit your EOI, but you do have to provide proof when it is selected.
The ITA(invitation to apply) is basicly the EOI printed off and posted back to you for you to check and attatch all the info (such as birth certs, police checks, medicals, work history etc.) i made the mistake of saying i had 10 yrs experience because i have 20 and 10 was the maximum option, but now they want to see references covering 10 years. I could have got away with 4 years minimum from an electrical point of view.
The people at immigration are ok really. I went to NZ house on tues for something else and spoke to one of the girls from the office while i was there. I explained that my passport no.s had changed cos we had to renew em since EOI- "no problem just write it on the ammendments page", and that i need em back for a pre-arranged holiday in april- "no problem just let us know and we'll post em to you" and that my eldest son now wanted to come to NZ - "no problem just add him to the application" we also had to ring her re a query last month and she was really helpful then too, even mailing us later to check we could sort it.
She said two important but "unofficial" things that you wont find written anywhere. ;)
1- "I think the EOI points limit will rise higher than 100 points in the near future so dont hang around"
2- "we basically have 2 strerams, a priority stream for applications with job offers, and a second stream for the others. If you have a job offer your ITA gets turned around asap, if not we stack it for later atttention but promise to attend to it within 3 months"
I hope she doesnt mind me passing that on

Another silly thing to check is the length of time left on yor passports. I think to be sure you have long enough it should be 3 years (?? :roll )

You get it from the police force local to the area you were living/still have your house in. ie, London= Met Police etc. The area where you pay your council tax
It is usually hidden away on the website but I certainly found it on the Mets and Sussex police forces and you can download the form. It's £10 and I guess if your having your post re-directed it can be posted there and forwarded on as usual.
It takes about 6 weeks
Be clear about why you want it to them, some county forces know nothing about this. Ours rang and argued we weren't living in their county but the next one, they had never heard of our village. How reassuring. ;)

Too late to turn back now and get us on that KIWI flight ASAP!
For anyone reading this thread for advice, we had a couple of conversations with the immigration office directly who were very helpful.
If you have questions about you EOI application that you can't find the answer to call 01344 716199 UK
Looking forward to recieving the next stage!
