Hi! We finally moved into our new place on Friday - it was great to see our belongings again after 3 months, and already the place is starting to look and feel like home.

I'm having (expected) tv problems... I knew the tv probably wouldn't work, but I thought our UK vcr would? The dvd player is fine, but though the video is playing it ain't showing anything on the tv!! Hubbie insists he's got it connected right... But when I searched the forum for tv / vcr threads I got references to buying an NZ vcr to watch telly through, but nothing about your uk vcr...... With me? Should it work ok here? Help! I can live without telly (we've been watching dvd's at night) but my mum sent me a video from the UK I really want to watch ;-(

If you are using it just to watch tapes there is no reason I can see that it won't work if you are using your UK telly. I might be wrong but this seems logical to me. :)

Someone I think StevieD suggested taking the TV back to its original setting ie setting it up from scratch.

Can you reset the video too?
Hope this helps

Hi,

We have had the same problem. Our Uk VCR will only work on a Uk TV if you use the RF ( coax cable) connection. The way around this and similarly for a NZ VCR is to plug the coax cable from the outside aerial to a NZ VCR and then use audio cables from the vcr to the TV rather than the coax cable. Hope your still with me? A UK VCR will not receive a NZ Rf signal so the only way to obtain NZ telly is to get a NZ VCR or tv. Its all to do with the PAL signalling system. I think the UK is PAL A/B and NZ is PAL B/G.
Hope this helps.

All down to the sound system used - the same but slightly different frequency offset. So - UK TV and VCR for tape playback is fine. In order to use the video to receive tv it must be one bought in NZ.
However, if your tv is a reasonably new one, go onto setup menu or equivalent and try to reset it, it will search for the tv system received by the aerial (which you must have plugged in!) and hopefully that will cure it.
If u not receiving something from the VCR when playing back there is a prob with the connection somewhere.

Good luck

Steve

After spending three hours trying to tune our TV into a NZ video:confused: , I finally called out a TV engineer, he brought along a set of AV leads and after 15 mins we had a working TV, best $45 spent, as it meant that I could leave what hair I had left, alone. Get a set of AV leads and a cheap NZ video and start from there, or do what we did, get someone in who knows what they are doing:nice1 .
