I am new to this, and this will be my first thread that I post. My husband and I are looking in to moving to NZ. I am wondering if any of you might have any idea to what an associates degree in the United States equals to in New Zealand. It is easy to know that a bachelors here is a bachelors there. I have done research to try to figure it out and I'm not finding any answers.
I have almost finished my associates degree in early childhood education, which entitles me to teach preschool- kindergarten in the U.S., but an not sure if it would match up in NZ. I plan to go through NZQA, but would be curious to know ahead of time. Thanks. :)

I don't know for sure (sorry), maybe a Certificate or Diploma? I did a one-year course in NZ at a technical institute a while back and earned a Certificate, and if I'd done another year I would have got a Diploma.

Just to muddy the waters even further- a Bachelors degree is a 3 year degree in NZ- so a closer comparison would be a Bachelor's with honors in NZ since that is a 4 year degree I think. Except that the honors part usually involves a big research project and we don't do that here necessarily.

That page had information on a diploma in your area. I'd say it's worth contacting the department and asking about your situation. I've often found that people in NZ are very helpful if you just ask nicely for help!
