One of the international movers we are interested in (in Holland) uses as counterpart in New Zealand a company called The Moving Company.
Any of you have experience with this company, as I have heard some pretty bad stuff about them?

We also moved from Holland, afraid can't help you with the moving company, our movers here in NZ were Transworld, what company are you going with in NL?

Not sure yet, we are waiting for the quotations from a couple of moving companies. Waayenberg, UTS van Kralingen, Voerman, and one more I can't remember the name of right now.
Which one did you use?

Hi,
We used Bernardt, in Limburg, which is Unigroup worldwide UTS. We were very pleased with them and transworld in Auckland. We had a 40ft container, which included a motorbike, and i am happy to say we didn't have any breakages. The boys from UTS were very quick and efficent, only thing i would say is when the movers come in, anything you don't want them to pack, put in a different room with a no entry sign on, as things dissappear before your eyes, for example, i took the post out of the post box put it down on the table for all of 30secs, it was gone packed in one of the boxes, and yes it was important it was the copy for our insurance, which we needed to keep with us, no good in the container. Turned out it wasn't a problem we just went up to the insurers explained what had happened and got a new copy. We also had quotes from crown, waaijenberg, and a few others, we decided on Bernardt well the best reason being they had quite a competitive quote, they were local, and we got a very good feeling from the verhuisadviseur.
If you have any questions, or i can be of help any way, just let me know.

We have two quotes now (waiting for another two) and the difference is already striking. In price but mostly in estimated volume! UTS says we have about 32 cubic metres (20 ft container) and Voerman says we have over 50 (40 ft container)!
They both visited the same house!
UTS put a price tag on it of 5860 euro's, would you say if that is a reasonable price?
(The other mover wanted 11.000 euro's for the same amount of stuff.....)

Hi Nienke,
We got about 5 quotes in all, quite a variety of different prices.
We had a 40ft container which we deffinately needed, as a special crate was made for the motorbike, which took up quite a lot of room.
Have sent you a PM

We had the Moving Company as our NZ counter part and they were fine handled all the paperwork and delivered when they said they would. No problems

Good to hear that Tara, as I really have only seen complaints about this company so far. The quote we are probably going for is the one with the counterpart Moving Company, so we will find out ourselves!

So far I have only had to deal with them before our container has arrived, I would say that they were the most unfriendly and unhelpful Kiwi's that I have met so far.

Our container arrived in the country 26th December, I have had no email from them to confirm this.

The first piece of correspondence I had from them was on arrival her November saying our container would arrive on the 26th December and we had to fill out lots of the customs forms I filled in the UK and pay them $378 for MAF fees this includes their personnel to be there and move boxes. In my opinion Ihave paid that to Bishops in the UK as part of the package, should only be paying MAF fees direct. Also told I cannot be there when they do it.

When I asked for a date when we would get the container, they still have not informed me, I told them that I need to arrange a rental house for then, as currently in a short term part furnished place. I was told they would let me know just before christmas, still not heard, Could get our stuff between the 4th (next week) and perhaps the 10th but don't know.

As soon as I had paid them the money for MAF, they did forward everything from them as MAF phoned me when out shopping with a few questions.

Will have to see how we get on, but currently would not recommend them or Bishops for organisation, (although Bishops men packing were excellent, proof in the pudding when I get my stuff though). Will let you know.
