I HAVE BEEN READING THROUGH THE ITA AND AM BEGINNING TO WONDER WHAT THE POINT OF THE EOI IS.I THOUGHT THAT THE NZIS DID PRELIMERNARY CHECKS,THATS WHY IT TAKES 6 WEEKS,AND THEN IF YOU WERE INVITED TO APPLY,BECAUSE OF THIS PRE-SELECION PROCESS ,YOU WERE PRACTICALLY GUARANTEED A PR.....SEEMS I WAS WRONG,,,ONLY NOW DO I HAVE TO PROVE THAT MY JOB OFFER AND WORK EXPERIENCE ARE REAL AND RELEVANT AND HAVE TO PRODUCE CONTRACTS AND LETTERS STATING WORKING HOURS ETC, AND GET LETTERS FROM PAST EMPLOYERS AND PROVE THAT MY JOB IS IN A SKILLED INDUSTRY ETC ,ETC,,,,,,,,,,, :? :? WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE EOI????????????????????????? _________________

Hi Lynden,
Good question, one we'd probably be asking too if we'd received an ITA (still waiting for status to change to successful) :?

Thought the same as you though, but thanks for letting us know about the proof of employment etc. Something we can start getting together.

Anybody else got anything more useful to say by means of 'what is the use of the EOI'?? :uhoh

Hi,

Although completing the EOI is a pain in the bum, can you imagine how many people would be sending in all their docs, medicals, reports etc only to be declined....not to mention the cost to those individuals. I can't remember the figure off the top of my head, but I'm sure a few hundred people each year don't make it through the EOI stage. That's a big time/cost saving to the NZIS.

This makes you think that after all this trouble if you're invited to apply for residencey, your almost guarenteed to get it (unless you've been telling big fibs on the EOI). I'd be pretty raj if we were declinded after all the time/effort/cost to apply!

hi lynden,

the EOI is used to get the ITA for PR:

When can I apply?
You can only apply for a Residence Visa or Permit under our Skilled Migrant Category if we’ve sent you an official Invitation to Apply for residence. This can only happen if you have successfully submitted an Expression of Interest, which has then been selected from the Expression of Interest (EOI) Pool.

however, being selected and invited does not guarantee a PR:

Step 4: We ask you to apply for residence If you’ve been successful, we’ll send you an official Invitation to Apply for residence. After you’ve been invited to apply you’ll need to send us all the necessary documents to support the claims you made in your Expression of Interest – such as passports, qualifications and relevant certificates.

Step 5: Decision-making We’ll assess your application for residence against Government residence policy and look at your ability to settle successfully and make a real contribution to New Zealand’s social and economic development.

We’ll also undertake to verify some of the information you’ve told us in your Expression of Interest.

And depending on how you’re able to demonstrate your ability or potential to successfully settle in New Zealand:

your application may be approved and you’ll be granted a Residence Visa or Permit
or
you may instead be granted a Work Visa or Permit, which will enable you to establish yourself in skilled employment in New Zealand and help you gain residence
or
your application may be declined.

hope that helps...

EOI is "your" declaration that you are qualified to be a skilled migrant. I can always claim points that I actually don't deserve. The selection of EOI, I believe, is system generated. All EOIs who meet the current selection point are selected. After you've been selected, they'll counter check your claims. Thus, it's really important that you know when to cliam points

hmm it's interesting to know that waiting for an ITA is not make it easier for someone to get the PR. I believe the only best way to get the PR is just get a job offer...(again, if we're out of NZ...how then?) :wah :no
