Hi again all
it's been a while but unfortunately my wife's thyroid problem turned out to be a cancer. Obviously the last 3 months have been pretty poor. She has had all of her thyroid removed (2 ops) and is waiting a radiation tablet to hopefully kill off the rest.
Has anyone out there any knowledge of any other people that have had the same illness or other cancer/s and still managed to get to NZ???
Thanks
Nick

Sorry, I really don't know the answer to your question, but just really sorry to hear what you've both been through. Hopefully, she's now on the road to recovery. I'm sure there have been posts from people recovering from cancer treatment, asking just the same question as you - have you tried doing a search?
I hope the rest of her treatment goes well, and hope the new year will see you finally get to NZ!

As far as im aware Cancers are not necessarily a bar to emigrating. Thsi really does need to be discussed with NZIS as soon as possible though, to find out if this is still the case and what to do about it. It does mean that you are likely to need specailist medical reports however - so be prepared for that.
NZ is actually more concerned with infectious diseases such as TB.
I hope your wife is better - and that both of you stay as positive as possible. Although this is a terrible thing to have to go through - it doesnt actually have to mean the end of your dreams. Get hold of NZIS and find out what you will have to do different - if anything.
I hope 2006 is a bit better for you both!

So sorry to here this news Nick. Now the only info i can shed on this for you is that we spoke to a Real Estate agent a while ago who is English and has been out here for a few years. Whilst she was giving us a tour of a house we got talking as you do. I explained about this dream of ours, and how it was turned upside down with the news that my sister had been diagnosed with cancer just before we left. She had a certain look on her face and then went on to explain that she was riddled with cancer, in her lungs, kidney's etc. She then told us that it had affected her PR, but was able to come across on a work visa. So by all accounts it seems that the route isn't suddenly cut off.
I would agree with Avalon. Get hold of NZIS a.s.a.p. and i'm sure they'll come good with an answer. In the meantime, ditto re the comments from Avalon and KCS and i hope all is well for 2006.

Hello Nick, really sorry to hear your wife's news. I'm not sure I have anything particularly helpful to add, only that I know a friend of mine in Tauranga (a nurse) assists with NZIS medicals and has commented that very little seems to stop people getting visas, including HIV.
I really hope someone here can answer your question, and would like to send our very best wishes to you and your wife for a happy 2006,
Gil

That is one inspiring lady!

Before we found this site we had an interview with an emigration agency. I mentioned that I had had a cancer scare (luckily only a scare) and the agent said he had dealt with a lady who had breast cancer. If I remember rightly she had to wait five years before she could apply for NZ.
Could you contact NZIZ and ask them direct.
Wishing your family a safe and happy 2006

What a nasty time for you.
I can't help with any experience of this at all but all the best to you both and I hope your wife continues her recovery in 2006 and you can get to NZ soon.
I'm sure things will be sorted out when your CO comes back, please let us know what happens.
