My fiance and I are in the beginning stages of wanting to move to NZ and will be applying early in the new year. We were wondering if it made any difference applying as a married couple or single status. Ideally we want to get married in NZ (that's where our first thoughts came from about emigrating).
We would appreciate any feedback on this.
Thank you.

Hi
You have to prove to NZIS that you have been a couple for x amount of time anyway, ( 12 months... forgive me if Im wrong) I think wether married or living together. We have been together for ten years and have to provide NZIS with letters, photos, and other stuff relating to our relationship.
Hope this helps

PS getting married over there a piece of cake, we are getting married 17th Dec on Ohope beach, sorted the licence out here, went to NZ house for a quick chat and she stamped it, send it off to the local court house and bobs your uncle... $120 for the licence $100 for the celebrant to do the ceremony.

Hi, it shouldn't make any difference, as long as you can prove you have been in a stable relationship for at least a year.
The important stuff to give them is statements showing same address for that period, rental agreements with both names, council tax, wage slips etc.
If you have that, you don't need to bother with letters and photos etc.
If you got your NZ marraige licence before you went, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt your application either!!
Good luck :nice1

I agree with all of the above. It makes no difference whether you are married or not - you just have to be able to prove that you are in a long term (more than 12 months) stable relationship.
Good luck

Thank you all so much.
We much prefer the idea of being married in NZ, such idyllic wedding settings.
:P
Anyone up for a wedding party :P :P
