Hi Guys,
Since the changes in points required I can only now get to NZ if I have a job offer to go with my EOI etc.
How does one do this?
What are the chances of success?
Can anyone give me some helpful advice?
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve
I guess the short answer is by putting yourself about.
I don't know what field you are in, but register with job agencies, mail your CV to companies, keep a check on all the job sites ie; www.seek.co.nz (http://www.seek.co.nz/) http://jobstuff.co.nz/ etc. All the usual things you would do while looking for a job in the UK.
OH is in IT and his job offer came out of the blue. He had registered with an agency ( and others) and they had put him forward for the job on the strength of his Cv and experience. It moved very quickly from there. First we knew was when the company rang though :D
Do you have an area in mind or are you happy to go with the flow? I think the more flexible you are, the better your chances, but that is just my opinion. I think you have every chance of success.
Good luck and let me know if I can do anything to help from here.

3 options as I seeit:
1) Search through agencies, contacts etc from here and hope to get lucky
2) Don't worry about it. As you have 105 points you still go into the pool but are not automatically selected. Chances are that you will still be pulled out, but just might take a bit longer.
3) Get over to NZ on a short term basis, find a job whilst there and apply for PR from within.

According to the following report:
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/40D9BC27-C14C-4590-B849-324EE8FF0855/0/MigrationTrends200405summary.pps#11
in 2004/2005, 87% of the successful applicants (Skilled Migrants) has a job or job offer prior to approval. That sort of says it all, I think.
We went over already and met with recruiters and other IT types, and they all ask "When are are you here to stay. " They were also eager to work with us and all but assured us of employment. That is what we are going to do, and what others have recommended to us.
I hope that helps!

Its not that easy at all - or it wasnt when we had to do it. We couldnt get in without a job offer (though that changed shortly after we had the offer as the points dropped).
Even coming over for interviews didnt result in an offer because we werent there to stay and didnt have PR.
However - perserverance paid off and in the end on affer came through via telephone and video interviews, which then meant our application was speeded up somewhat.
Our best option would have been to come out here on a visitors visa for 6 months and try and blag a job that way, then finish the application process from here. We were actually going to do that at about the time we got through the PR system anyway - we couldnt do it before then because we couldnt afford to just come out on the off chance. But by then we had sold the house and OH had a paid leave of absence from the UK. Without that we just could not have done the "Get over to NZ and try and get a job".
With the change in the SMC, this is looking more and more like your best chance now.
Best of luck.

Having done the 'get over to NZ and get a job bit' i would warn that things don't always happen that quickly. it was nearly 2 months before my other half got a job offer and then another 2 wks for work permit to go through. I applied for job beginning Nov and my interview is not until end of Jan ( 3 months away!). Admittedly things may have been quicker if we'd moved to Auckland or Wellington, but then who knows? There's plenty of jobs in New Plymouth, and we've applied for quite a few of them, but things don't necessarily happen quickly and we still haven't actually been paid an NZ$ yet having been here for 2 1/2 months now. Also we faced several unexpected bills when we arrived (including a costly dentist bill) and had to pay school fees so our kids could start school enabling us to look for work. I remember hearing once on this forum that emigrating to NZ causes you to haemmorhage money...and we haven't even submitted an EOI yet (awaiting outcome of my job interview as i would be main applicant!!!)
