We will be applying to submit our EOI in the new year under the skilled migrant category.

I have many years experience in Financial Services / IT. My fiance is a hairdresser and also a qualified therapist doing massages, reflexology etc., Would his therapy qualifications be on the skilled migrant list as we have not seen this listed anywhere.

Also - would we have to submit an EOI for my daughter who is 17 or as she's under 18 can she automatically be considered with my application?

Thank you for any replies.

your daughter is included in your eoi. she falls under family members. you'd need her passport details though.

good luck!

Hi,
You can include dependent children up to 24 years of age. So don't worry about that. Good Luck!!!

Welcome KD17 :clap

Unsure about the qualification, you'd really need to check the OSL throroughly. However, not meaning to pry but, why are you waiting to submit an EOI until the new year? The selection points are at an all time low, which is not guaranteed to stay like this going into the new year. :?

Also, if you've read through some of the other threads you will have noticed that if you are selected into the pool, it will then still take quite some time before an Invitation To Apply is sent to you. Should your plans have remained unchanged and you Apply, another few months will pass before any outcome, and even then if your application is approved you would have 12 months to make the actual move. So maybe an idea to start the process this year?

Just a thought. Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

Thank you all for your replies.

The only reason we were waiting is that we are all currently doing college courses which continue until the end of the school year 2005.

I was of the impression that we would have about 4 months to take up our visa offer - assuming we were successful, of course.

We would like to physically move around Sept next year, so if we are given a year to make the move, find jobs, a place to stay etc., then, yes, we will apply now.

I would be interested to know what the actuall process is

I know we subit our EOI, then what??

Many thanks again.

hi d & k,

welcome to the forum :smile

The process for gaining residence as a Skilled Migrant

There are two stages of applying for residence under our Skilled Migrant Category:

stage one - you send us an Expression of Interest in applying for residence. In this Expression of Interest you assess yourself against a set of factors that define a skilled migrant. This assessment helps you determine the points you’d qualify for

stage two - we decide whether we’ll invite you to apply for residence in New Zealand based on the points you qualified for.

Here's the process in more detail...

Step 1: You complete an initial self-assessment
You can complete the Skilled Migrant Quick Check to help you decide whether or not it’s worth submitting an Expression of Interest.

Step 2: You submit an Expression of Interest
If you meet the prerequisites, you can complete and submit an Expression of Interest. In this you’ll tell us about your health, character, and English language ability, as well as the factors that will earn you points.

We recommend that you submit your Expression of Interest online. It’s cheaper than using the printed form, you can pay by credit card online, and you’ll know immediately whether your Expression of Interest has been accepted into the Pool. You can also check the status of your Expression of Interest and update your details even after your Expression of Interest has been submitted into the Pool.

If you are unable to submit an Expression of Interest online, you can download the printed form in PDF format from our website or obtain a copy from one of our offices. Completed forms must be sent to Wellington, New Zealand for processing.

Step 3: We rank Expressions of Interest and invite those with the top points to apply for residence
Expressions of Interest submitted over a number of weeks will be pooled and ranked from highest to lowest points. It is not a case of first in, first served.

We will rank Expressions of Interest in terms of points claimed and, following some checking, those with the highest points may be invited to lodge an application for residence.

If your Expression of Interest is not selected from the Pool the first time it will remain in the Pool for three months. If it is still unsuccessful, we will advise you that your Expression of Interest has been withdrawn from the Pool. You can lodge another Expression of Interest, along with the applicable fee, if you wish. (Expressions of Interest submitted to the Pool up to and including 3 June 2004 will remain in the Pool for six months.)

Step 4: We ask you to apply for residence
If you’ve been successful, we’ll send you an official Invitation to Apply for residence. After you’ve been invited to apply you’ll need to send us all the necessary documents to support the claims you made in your Expression of Interest – such as passports, qualifications and relevant certificates.

Step 5: Decision-making
We’ll assess your application for residence against Government residence policy and look at your ability to settle successfully and make a real contribution to New Zealand’s social and economic development.

We’ll also undertake to verify some of the information you’ve told us in your Expression of Interest.

And depending on how you’re able to demonstrate your ability or potential to successfully settle in New Zealand:

your application may be approved and you’ll be granted a Residence Visa or Permit
or
you may instead be granted a Work Visa or Permit, which will enable you to establish yourself in skilled employment in New Zealand and help you gain residence
or
your application may be declined.

Step 6: Welcome to New Zealand – we want to stay in touch with you
If you’re not already in New Zealand, we’ll arrange a Welcome Pack on your arrival, as well as providing you with a contact person who can help you access information you need to help you settle in.
