No kidding! I am an engineer from Michigan and we own a 6-year old Thoroughbred/Trakehner that my wife and daughters ride for jumping. He is quite valuable (we didn't pay a lot for him but he is now wonderfully trained) and my first daughter is headed for an equestrian career. Does anyone know how this is done or have any info or links? I am new to this forum but it looks like the best single find on the web for moving to NZ.

I found this (http://www.eventers.co.nz/finding/shipping_air.shtml) from Google.
I'm currently living in Finland and from here it's not so unusual to ship horses to races by air. Even to central Europe where driving with trailer would take only few days. So I wouldn't even think of any other method than shipping by air. Few hours in plane is much easier to horse than days in ship.

Hi mi-engineer,

If you haven't seen it, MAF lists all govt. requirements for importing a horse from the US at
http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/imports/animals/standards/horaniic.usa.htm

Yep we got a quote from IRT to ship my daughters eventer to NZ from UK, it was around £7,400 to fly (quoted in March 05)
She is staying here for a few years, still wanting to break into British Eventing (shes back riding - busy training her 2 now, after 3 weeks giving birth!) So she knows its going to be expensive when they emigrate, but Hes Her 'BABY' and she is going to save up for it anyway! Unless the vet says hes to old by then and then she will give him to someone she can trust to retire him.

If you email IRT, they are very helpful, they even were fine when we said that we were leaving it for a few years, they just said to contact them in the future if they could help.
