Hello,

I am a Kiwi living in Brighton with my English Husband, we started the application process in September. When I say started the application process I mean my husband had his medical and started all the forms. Trying to not interfere I left it up to him....with a list mind you of what he had to do....I am a project manager after all. Our house had been on the market since April as we where going to buy another but that fell through so we thought that we would move our plans to move to NZ forward.

Life then went and got complicated and we went through a very challenging time and the application went on the back burner. Through this time, we accepted an offer on our house in November and settlement is 10th Feb although circumstances that made us accept the offer have changed we know how very difficult it is to sell and buy houses but now my husbands medicals have expired :wah

He is booked to have these redone on the 9th of Jan but that means that we won't be able to submit the application till at least the 19th Jan! We are moving out of our house on the 10th of Feb. I really have no idea how long this next step will take. Does anyone have any ideas? Is having sold our house and moving into shared accommodation going to hinder us with the application?

Help, for a project manager I feel pretty out of control at the moment :o

Hi Emma

Welcome to ENZ forums. I'm also a Kiwi married to an Englishman and we went the PR by partnership route too. I can't see that moving house is going to be a problem, so long as you keep NZIS informed of your contact details. Alot of our contact with NZIS was by email anyway.
From our own experience, and that of alot of people on this site, I'd say the hardest thing about this NZ emigration thing (at least from England/Wales) is selling your house - so you're nearly there on that one.
Whereabouts are you moving to in NZ? We're moving back to Auckland cos that's where my folks are. We're looking forward to having babysitters/grandparents to dump the children with!!

I'm new too and also going down the partnership route, though it's my hubby who's the lucky one :D (I wish I had dual-nationality!)

I'm so sorry to hear that bad things have been happening, but hopefully now, all the bad things wil be fniished.

Speaking to NZIS yesterday, after submitting the partnership application, the timescale to acceptance is 6 weeks. So if you submit on 19th Jan, you'll be looking late Feb, early March.

I wouldn't think that it would hinder you, as long as you still live together and have proof.

Gary and I are heading Akl too - Kohimarama, as that is where I am from. I can't wait, I have only been here 5 years but after the last couple of months it feels like a life time.

I hope your house sells soon, it truely is an awful process over here and one that I do't want to do again in a hurry!

Where abouts in Akl are you heading too?

All I can say is that you have made my day, I was worried about having to find a place to live in and securing further employment ( I am a contractor).

All the trauma of the last few months is finally behind us and we are moving on and looking forward to this New Year!

Hmm, we're def not going anywhere as posh as Kohi!! (I do have some friends who live in Orakei and Remuera so will be visiting your area of the world!! :laugh ). We're heading out West. My parents are in Massey - and most of the rest of my family are out west. Def a good move for us to be close to potential babysitters (our kids are 4 years and 2 1/2 years) seeing as we've spent all their short lives 5 hours drive from Mark's family (they're in Plymouth).
Hope the rest of your house sale goes smoothly - we've just threatened our buyer with remarketing the house after 5 1/2 months of being patient. Will keep you posted!! Can't wait to buy a house in NZ where you can do it all within a very short period of time (took us nearly 6 months to buy this place too!! :wah ).

Dawn, dual nationality is great. We're off to Rome at the end of the month for a 5 day weekend, and I'll get to use my British passport for the first time - I am really excited!!! (yes, I do lead a very boring existance and little things get me excited - something to do with having two under-5 year olds!)

We are now residing with our inlaws as we sold our house in Oct - before we submitted our ITA....we just changed the address details on the ITA form, there is a section where you list the changes and the reason why these were changed....we also changed a few things like email addy as we would be no longer using the NTL email. and have now had to use my hubbys Orange.net email account.

we submitted it on the 23rd OCT, we have received a letter to our new address stating that they had received it ok and that there is a 1-4 mth waiting list so it is showing on the website as PENDING....we are now waiting patiently for this to change! :rolleyes:

so I dont think you will have a problem, good luck

I think that you have just jumped a huge hurdle which unfortunately holds many people up....... selling their house.

If you have somewhere to live, grab the chance and cross another thing off the list of things to do ( toast your good fortune and then smile a lot)

Make sure NZIS have your contact details and settle yourself in for the wait. :D I can't see why they would be bothered where you live as long as they can get in touch.

I know what you mean about feeling out of control, I really didn't feel in charge of my life again 'til we got on that plane at Heathrow!

We too have sold up, but have all our Visas, when we submitted our application we were expecting a 12 week wait but to our amazement they arrived back the next week. :raebanana :raebanana

This might help, taken directly from the London Branch NZIS website:

Family Stream processing times
Within fourteen days of your application being received by London Branch you will receive an acknowledgement letter. This will give you further information about the application process, your application number and may request additional information where necessary.

The next step is for your application to be allocated to a visa officer.

It can be difficult to give an accurate timeframe for the processing of applications, as circumstances differ. Please note that when a file is allocated to a visa officer for assessment you will receive further information regarding the likely timeframe for your application.

As a guideline, please use the following timeframes:

Partnership/Dependent child applications

Allocation timeframe - 1 month

Processing timeframe - 2 months

Adult Sibling/Parent applications

Allocation timeframe - 3 months

Processing timeframe - 4 months
