Just following from Dawn's email - I think it is good to highlight where NZIS are being efficient. My OH waited 2 weeks for his work permit to arrive just in time for him to start his new job (the delay being caused to Christmas getting in the way). I applied on for a family work permit (i.e. a permit based being the partner of someone with a work permit). After lots of worrying about whether they would accept my evidence of partnership, i received my passport with permit back by return post. I took a grand total of 48 hours, all by post. Also, our student permits for our children took 4 days by post. If they receive the right info it seems they can turn stuff around incredibly quickly.

I hope this helps anyone applying for work permit/visas.
