Hi guys,
A special day for me today, i recieved an email saying everything in my application was fine but i need to ring to make an appointment for an interview because i don't have a job offer.
I feel like i am coming to a point in my journey where i can see light at the end of the tunnel.
So if anyone can offer me any advice on preparing for an interview then all help would be gratefully appreciated.
P+H
p.s i lodged my ITA on the 21st october.
p.p.s i'm also hoping that helen hears this week about her interview.

Congrats! :clap
That hopefully means we (lodged oct 24) will hear from them too..
I better start digging in my files what was said about those interviews again..
Ok Here's a list I once copied from here I think:
Possible New Zealand Permanent Residency Interview Questions:
Why do you want to leave your home country?
Why do you want to go to NZ?
Have you considered going anywhere else?
What have you heard about NZ?
What do you know about NZ?
Have you ever been before, even for a visit?
Do you have any friends in NZ?
Has anyone given you any advice about moving to NZ?
What have you done about finding work?
How do you intend to find employment?
What will you do if you didn’t get a job in your chosen career?
What will you do if you can’t find a job?
Have you ever worked away from your hometown?
Have you any idea what you might earn in NZ?
Have you thought about the cost of living?
Where do you want to live?
What will you do for accommodation initially?
Are you planning on renting or buying property when you arrive in NZ?
What will your partner do for a living?
What if you do not find work in the area you have chosen to live in?
How will you support yourselves?
What have you heard about the NZ life style and from whom?
How will you make friends?
How will you overcome barriers that you encounter?
What do you know about the education system?
What interests do you have?

Try thinking of it more like a conversation with someone who is trying to understand why you're moving to NZ. Also, when I was in interview panic I started a thread and got some terrrific advice: http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2914

Honestly - you don't need to "study" for this - as Gil pointed out in her post a while back - they aren't trying to trick you - they WANT you to come - just tell them what you want out of the move and answer any questions with the truth.
Ours took about 20 minutes and it wasn't stressful at all. So *DON'T WORRY* - it'll be fine :D

We got an email from our case officer today, asking us if we wanted to come to London or wait for them to come to Holland in march/april. Of course we're going to London!! We have already booked the flights. We might even meet you Paul and Helen, because it will be on wednesday. We're making a little trip out of it, taking the boys with us & staying for three days, 2 nights.
Yeahaww London Eye here we come! :clap :laugh
Anyone know a nice not too expensive hotel near New Zealand House or anyplace nice... is Notting Hill nice???

Thats great news Hannah, i wish you the best of luck!!
We won't be in London, mine is only a phone interview and Helen hasn't had the email yet. [ we applied seperately because it was easier than proving we are a couple because were not married].
London is a great place to visit and i'm sure you'll have a fab time.
Let us know how you get on.

What brilliant news and a trip to London. Enjoy it and the interview too. Please let us know how you get on. :nice1
BTW I found the Dutch Shop in Petone today and went a bit bonkers buyings stuff I remember from my childhood trips to see my family, sprinkles, syrupy waffles, licquorice (with and without salt) Fritesauce etc. The cheese smelt like heaven too.
OH commented that I seem to be over my shopping problem when I walked in with 4 carrier bags. He doesn't know I had already put some carrier bags inside those ones. ;)
La la la.

Fantastic Hannah! A trip to London AND the interview! It does make it all the more exciting I think. We found the medicals became more "fun" because we made the trip to Manchester and stayed overnight!
Have a great time,

How exciting Hannah. Glad it is all coming together for you. You could go see the London Aquarium after going on the London Eye - it is right next to it. My kids love the Aquarium and the London Eye. Can't wait to hear how your trip to London goes.
Good luck

:laugh You guys, oops girls, make me laugh, we're going for just the three days and we have to travel in from Stansted, but we DO plan to pack as much of fun into those days. The interview is only 20 mins, so we have plenty of time left, to do the Eye, and the Aquarium and the Museum..
They all sound great and we thank you all for those tips. We booked the flight with Ryan Air and are staying in a Notting Hill hotel. Ah yes, that movie made us do it, but who cares... It's a holiday, it's great and life is beautiful, the sun is shining too today ;) :raebanana
D. (Smiler) you had me giggling about the OH thinking you were over your shopping spree, my brother in Canada goes into the dutch store there regularly, and buys himself bags full of goodies too!
Thanks all for the well wishes, now I have to get hubby to do his homework (just go through those questions once so he will get the feeling..) Think I could get in there as well? Just as a listener?
Will let you know how things went!

Hi
Well done - ur almost there :clap .
I went thru the same process and I also did not have an offer of employment. The telephone interview lasted no more than 20 minutes. It is broadly along the same lines as what Hannah has already outlined above.
The interview was more like talking to a friend. NZIS just wanted to ensure that I had done some research into NZ and trying to determine my expectations as well as my employability. Fortunately for me, my interview happened 2 weeks after I had returned from NZ for an expoloratory visit so I was able to reel off info on NZ which impressed the lady interviewer.
Dont worry about swotting - as long as you hhave done some knowledge of NZ then you should be ok.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Regards
Ishi

Today was the day! i've had my interview and like everyone has said it was quite straight forward.
I started off quite nervous but it didn't take long for me to relax.
The lady that interviewed me was called Maxine and she was lovely, very pleasent made me feel like it was a chat rather than an interview.
All the questions i was asked have been covered on this thread so no additions from me.
Just leaves me to say, Thank you for putting up the questions and the kind words of support.
For those of you waiting for your interviews or the next part of your journey, good luck.

Good luck, Paul and Helen. Did she say when you'd hear? This is the most frustrating part - checking your email every two seconds and trying to look for an excuse to get in contact. I have no doubt that you'll get what you want, but it doesn't stop this bit being a nailbiting situation. Let us know when you get the good news!

Good for you. As you might have read elsewhere, we found it v.useful on the day to have just a few hard facts and figures about, eg., our skill area or where we wanted to live... such as names of actual instiutions/trade groups/percentages of workers in your industry/ salary levels/ names of local schools or kindies... that sort of thing. Take your pick.
No hassle, you don't need more than three or four bits of such data and you don't need to spend more than 20-30 mins. research. The key psychological help is that you have something to focus on if you get nervous, PLUS it looks good to have sought out a bit of hard info.
But please bear in mind that we had a telephone interview (took about 45-50 mins.) and that in such circumstances you don't have cues such as body language to work with and thus it's particularly useful to have a few facts and figures to help carry you through.
You'll be fine.

Oh, and our other big tip that we reckon bears repeating is to do a mock interview at home, and/or with a pal (don't know what your circumstances are exactly).
Like those red tablets we all used to chew at school that revealed tooth plaque, just asking each other a few of the likely questions out loud is a tremendous way instantly to highlight any patchy answers. It's very interesting and can be fun... a topic you think you've got down pat might turn out to sound a tad cliched or empty when spoken out loud, but with a few minutes' work afterwards you can make it so much better.
Doesn't need to be a long or humiliating exercise... just 30 mins. over a coffee with a notepad next to you so you can note down areas for polishing. Just make sure that the 'interviewer' role-player stays quiet and lets the 'interviewee' really answer each question, and don't use nods and winks to help each other to wing it if you start to "Umm" and "Er..." ... otherwise areas for improvement and awkward pauses don't get highlighted! :laugh
By the by it's at the point at which you stumble on any patchy answers that that smattering of facts and figures (see above) can prove invaluable. :nice1
