Hi Everybody.

Smiler made me think of this re her post in the Ramblings for the Welsh Contingency thread.

Irrespective of whether you are shipping EVERYTHING to your new life in NZ or just travelling light and bringing next to nothing, what's the one thing that you wouldn't leave behind ?? I don't mean the obvious such as family photos etc, but the more obscure that may only mean something to you.

Thanks to Smiler, one of the things that I will definitely be bringing is a UK road atlas. Why?? Because my OH does HGV Class 1 trucking as part of his job and a UK road atlas will hold a lot of memories for him.

Has that made you put your thinking caps on ??

NO REGRETS that's for sure!

Seriously, suppose my guitar.... for quiet moments of musical indulgence.

This might sound mad but apart from my mountain bike the other thing i couldn't leave behind is a spoon! a very special spoon!
You know the long thin spoons that you use for getting ice cream deserts out of thin glass bowls? well i have one of those, and getting a tea bag out of my big mug with any other spoon just wouldn't be the same.

Our stuff should be delivered next week ,the only things I have really really missed are my washing machine ,my Dyson [a friend has lent us an ancient vacuum cleaner ,it is quicker to pick up the bits myself to be honest ] and my kids want the potato masher ,everytime we go shopping they say buy a masher mum ,and I replied there is one on the ship ,we can wait .

So I guess it will be mashed potatoes on tuesday night . :nice1

But I like this minimalist look ,in the dining room we have a table and 6 chairs bought off trade me ,the lounge has a TV ,2 garden chairs and a couple of beanbags [oh and a fan ],our bedroom a new bed and wicker side table, kids rooms mattresses on floor [louises room millions of barbies ,bratx and polly pocket bits ]

So I guess ,I'm going to leave most of the stuff in the garage till we buy a house later in the year [now which box is that bloomin masher in  ]

Glad to be of help.:D

Difficult choice really but had I not been able to bring anything else and had to choose one thing, it would have been my pictures of the wreck of the Titanic and my souvenirs from my trip. (Ok more than one item I know)

I was lucky enough to win a competition and went down in a submersible to see the wreck (2 1/2 miles under the north atlantic).

I have always been a titanic nutcase bordering on the manic, :laugh I was the 69th person to ever see the wreck and more people have been in space than see what I have seen. It truly was the chance and the most emotional trip of a lifetime and every time I think of what I did and my trip, my heart still skips a beat, mn eyes light up (OH says) and my tummy turns over.

If I had to choose something useful, it would be my William Bounds stainless steel Pepper grinder. :raebanana

Smiler ...you need to meet my Dave ,he is a distant relative of Captain Smith [his Mum's great, great uncle ].

Dave and his brother who both own or [in our case] used to own a boat like to tell people this fact once they are out to sea ,but luckily not many icebergs off the UK shores .

Oh Marie how fab, I'm on my way up, tell him. :exit

On my trip I met Marconi's daughter Electra, Ron Warwick Cap'n of the QEII, QM etc and some wonderful knowledgable people.

Tell Dave I've seen his great great great uncle's cabin and bath and hovered outside his cabin porthole.

I may have outed myself here as an anorak now, but hey ho Moorf's a train one!

A dried whole orange. It started life as the typical fresh oraange in the bottom of my son's 1st xmas stocking and he's played with it non stop, first just to hold then as ball as it turned hard and now in, (when I let him) in his shop. Been in touch with MAF have the quote for importing it but I wouldn't leave it behind.
On a practical note having read Moorfs recent post, my round bottomed wok.

I have a hollow green wax statuette of Abraham Lincoln that I made at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. They have these 60's era jukebox-like machines where you put in your dollar and it molds the statue right in front of you.

I made one as a child in 2nd grade (and lost it), and am embarrased to say that I visited the museum at the age of 25 and just had to try the machine again...

And, on a practical note, my cozy down comforter. Just like Linus' blanket.

my Star Wars collection :o

That and all the Mediveal Re-inactment type stuff we have - as there is pretty much no such thing here. Especially the couple of bottles of Mead we brought.

These are the sorts of things that have a lot of value to us and cannot be easily replaced in NZ

And BOOKS. Sooo expensive here. Really really glad we brought so many with us. Regret not buying more bookcases to bring over though. :uhoh
