Hello, we have finally decided to go ahead with the application for residency under the family visa. I have been looking around at the posts on here about panel doctors and I have a quick question. We are going on holiday to NZ in six weeks time (to visit the rest of the family and check that OH really wants to go) and I am wondering if it would be cheaper to get the medicals done there as it seems to be that you can have any GP do your medical in NZ. Has anyone done this? Was it straightforward? How much did it cost you? I am wondering if, even though we are applying from the UK, there would be a problem with them accepting a medical from a NZ doctor and not one of the panel doctors over here.
I would be really grateful for any info. as my mind is now swamped with all the things I have to organise and pay for!!

Bloody good idea i'd say. My meds here in uk cost me £1150 for six of us  . I heard they are around $100 each in NZ on here somewhere. The only catch is they cannot be older than 3 months when you submit them. The people at NZ house in london are really helpful, i'm sure they will tell you if thats ok or not.

Hello,
Am even more confused now, have spoken to NZ house and they said that I will have to get it done in the UK if we are applying in the UK. I thought I had read elsewhere that others had had it done Singapore and Belgium (not sure on those locations though). Would be a big price difference if I can get it done in NZ. Any info would be great.
Thanks,
Becca

Hi Becca,
If you go to the NZIS website page with a list of forms on it, select Health, Character and Police Forms and you will be able to get an Adobe file up. Try this link:
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/general/formsandfees/formsandguides/healthcharacter.htm
and click on the Medical and Chest X-ray guidance notes in English, and it confirms that if you are applying from a country that has a list of Panel Doctors (which UK does) you must select from that list.
Hope that helps clarify, though it's probably not what you wanted to hear :uhoh
