Hello

I'm still single. Where is a good place to reside in Wellington for a single guy who loves ocean views, beach and hiking?

Also how much do single room apartments cost to rent?

TY

Probably Island Bay, although it's 15 min out of town on the bus and maybe not so great for ...er...not remaining single - if that's a factor :)
I'd be tempted to say Roseneath/Hataitai/Mt.Vic...great sea views ( but most of the best sea views aren't near the beach - they're higher up in the hills), 5 mins from town, single rooms in shared house between $100-160 pw ( lots more if studio apt)

Hope that helps....go see where they are on a map.

Hi Mark

http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/2975-2976-/auction-44858090.htm this is an example of a flat near us in Miramar. Stunning views, 1 bedroom blah blah. There are cheaper areas and I'm sure more expensive. The same agent has some examples on his listings.

Dave k's advice is good and Island bay is nice. I don't think you can beat a good drive, walk, cycle round though, before you make the decision.

Good luck

Mark-

Would you consider the backpackers for a while?

Its cheap (dont know idf thats an issue) and you would have a great chance to meet loads of people. A friend of mine who has just gone home to Germany was living there most of the year, and had a fantastic social life mad made loads of friends.

I think there are 3 in Welly - none have sea views that I know of - but all are within about 2 minutes walk of the water at the most. In fact if you live in the Center of the city - pretty much anywhere is about 5 mintes from the water.

Just a thought - but it would let you find your feet.

My single male friends live in Brooklyn, Island Bay and Haitaitai - Island Bay would be the best bet for hiking (nice little beach too) since you're reasonably near to the Red Rocks where there are some lovely walks including seeing the seal colony.

They all house share - in fact all of my single friends including female house-share since prices for a single apartment are pretty steep. (Also a great way of meeting people - flat mates & their friends etc. You can cycle to the city from all of the places mentioned as well as bus it & the buses run pretty late).

Good luck!

Thank you all for all your help.

Avalon, is there a website for backpackers' places. I think this is the most economical way as a start. I may land in Auckland 1st, so any references in that city will help.

Thank you again.

Thank you all for your responses. In the US, you pay rent by month. I suppose in NZ it is by week. Do they ask for a 1 or 2 month advance or a deposit?
