Id try and pay Maf Direct if theres an option too.

$395 sound like a lot of money - is the invoice or charge direct from MAf or from your shippers? It may be worth asking for a copy invoice direct from Maf and paying them direct if at all possible.

They are coming to our house ,its mainly tools ,diving gear and the tent .
We did self pack too .
I'll hang onto the cheque till I see the MAF people.

Thanks ,

Marie - read this thread.....

Might give you some pointers.... the amount of $395 seems quite common..hmm

Pay the MAF man, Pay the MAF man, Pay the MAF man.

Ask for a breakdown of the charges, he should have an invoice for you and give him the money, not to the shippers.

It will be like a late christmas, all that unpacking of goodies, enjoy. :nice1

Any issues you'd like to discuss today Deborah? :laugh

Yayy Marie - bet you have fun unpacking your own stuff. Let us know how you got on - which shippers did you use (and who did they use the NZ end?)

Got a few boxes of stuff that has to be checked by MAF and I told the guys I would pay them on friday.I'll post an update on friday .

Its really weird seeing all my stuff here ,kids are loving it :clap

Guess what ........I'm going to sit on my sofa and have a big glass of Wine :cheers

Maf guy just left ,very quick inspection ,only had a quick peek at the tent and golf shoes ,just asked what was in boxes .He asked to see the Dyson and golf shoes [which the shippers hadn't told me ,so we had used the dyson ]

We asked what his charges were ,and that we would pay him .

He said we couldnt pay him ,comes through the shippers ,but his costs were $75 and $78 for the cubic feet of stuff he needed to check .

Euro pacific want $393 for his services . :no

We chatted for awhile and he said he would send us a bill himself ,he knows about these inflated fees ,but he says he will tell customers his price if they ask .

So if we hear anymore from the shippers I'll let you know .

Hmmmphhh....you're spoiling them kids.....clean clothes, beds to sleep in AND mashed potatoes!!!

Seriously though, I hope all your stuff arrived safely and without too many damages.

You and Dave seem to have settled really well and you're an inspiration.

I have to be honest and say I get moments of doubs as to whether or not we are doing the right thing, but hey - nothing ventured.....and I'll feel more positive about it all tomorrow.

Don't worry Julie, we all have those moments from time to time. You get over them though, quite quickly I find. :)

I know what you mean Julie - I have those wobbly moments now and again too. Let's face it - what we're all doing is pretty massive isn't it? Leaving familiarity, security, friends and family to go off to the other side of the world is a pretty big deal.

On the other hand - having the chance to live a different life in a beautiful country, meet new people and experience new things is something that not everyone gets so it will sooooo worth it.

And always remember, you're not on your own - there's always someone on this forum who has been, or is going through the same feelings and emotions.

You'll be fine girl!!!!

Cheers

I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Some days I feel so positive about the whole thing and other days I just can't stop crying and questioning whether we are making the right decision. I'm sure that in the end, when we are all sitting in NZ with a glass of wine in one hand and the warm sunshine on our skin we will look back at these times and just laugh!

Nothing ventured...nothing gained!
Cheers,
Jo

After watching a Place in the Sun the other night (Thanks Julie!!) I'm in one of my "I CAN'T WAIT TO GO" moods at the moment.

But I have my moments of doubt too. It's normal. Especially when you read threads on the cost of living in NZ. My doubts come from leaving a well paid job to do the same job over there for less than half the money!

Chin up Julie, you know ya wan a go really!! ;)

Thanks guys.........I needed that.

I have to say Nic, thats my main concern too........trying to keep up the decent living we have here on a lesser salary there........... :no ......No, I'm not even going to start thinking down those lines again - at least not 'til tomorrow !

Thanks for all your help guys, its nice to know I'm not alone.

We finally got the bill [from the shippers not MAF]asking for $393 ,Dave phoned them and said we will pay $150 and thats all !!
They tried to justify the amount ,but accepted that they will only get the $150.
