Has anyone tried these?

1. Fly-by-wire thingy. I saw Ian from Globe Trekker flying around on this and decided I have to try it next month. Is it worth the price for the drive out there and only a 5 minute ride?

2. Nevis Highwire bungee (134meters). I was set to do this until I noticed it was $199NZ and a 4-hour trip to the mountain and back. Since our time in Qtown will be short, I may just do the Ledge bungee in town.

3. Dart River Safari boat/coach trip. We were planning to do the simple Twin Rivers jet boat trip, but I came across the Dart River Safari trip on the internet, which sounds like more fun.

We're still trying put together our itineraries for Christchurch and Wellington....

fly-by-wire -looks- super fun! i saw it on the lonely planet tv show. i wanna do it! the fact that you get to drive makes it more interesting than bungee in a way...certainly more unique!the flight is 8 minutes, 6 of which you are "driving."

looks like a 25 minute shuttle ride (free of charge for the flyer, but $20 for "spectators"). you have to book your flight and transport 2+ days ahead. it says something about waiting 2.5 hrs for a "return trip," maybe that's the duration between when you leave town and when you get back? (you have to wait for the other flyers to finish).

My father-in-law has done Nevis bungee jump at 58 ! !

He said it was by far the best one to do and well worth the money.

If you haven't seen it you jump from a fixed cable car. He bought the DVD they make of your jump. Which we all watched when they got back, very high and very scary in my eyes. There's no way on this earth you'd get me up there.

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't think the Ledge bungee looked all that impressive/scary/fun. Another alternative is the original bungee jump at Karawau (sp?) River, which is 20 minutes or so outside of town and easy to find. You can drive yourself - no waiting on buses/shuttles or anything. It's cool, with the roiling blue-green river below you and all. But Nevis may just be your thing!
