Has anybody out there gotten "downgraded" to a WTR visa instead of the Skilled Migrant normal visa, which is a normal residency visa? I'm so confused, since the NZIS site give little or no info on the terminology. Is a "permanent residency visa" the same as a skilled migrant visa, which is two years duration (pre 5DEC05)? If I we only get a WTR, what is our status with residency vs. just being given a short chance of finding a job? Help! :wah I'm concerned that with a WTR, there are no benefits of residency at all, such as customs clearance for belongins, insurance, car ownership, etc.

Our original skilled migrant application got officially "deferred" today. So we're still in the states waiting for WTR paperwork and have to send that in. Meanwhile, the NZIS has already started the two year visa time effective retroactively!! What is that?? So our two year time is reduced each day as the clock ticks until we can board a plane and land in NZ. So I think our health care benefits are messed up because we don't meet the two year minimum. :(
