We are very keen to make this work and have been viewing this excellent forum with great interest any help would be greatly appreciated.
1. Apply EOI =100 points only (don’t see this going anywhere without job offer)
2. Sell house plus everything UK about £200k
(disclosed to illustrate sufficient funds to support ad-hoc emigration plan)
3. Arrive Auckland with 6 month holiday visa
4. Get job unsure of paperwork issues or if problem with employers with holiday visa status?
(Having made enquiries am comfortable that Auckland has positions available if I can get face to face, definitely can’t do it over the internet)
5. Hopefully with job update EOI with Job offer to gain 50 points
6. Hopefully achieve Permanent residency or similar
7. The volunteers =Me, Wife & Son 43, 43, 7
8. Am I insane,

Shouldnt be a problem, you just need to make sure you have all your supporting docs to apply for a work pemit, ie employment references, work history, qualifications etc. Your employer may be able to help, but a lot of them dont understand the system so you will need to be clued up on what you need them to provide, ie contract stating job position, full time etc. What job are you applying for? If its not on the Occupational Shortage List (Is is still called this?) NZIS may want to do a Labour Survey and if they find that the job could be filled by a kiwi you may not be able to get a work permit.
Welcome to the forum by the way :o)

Hi Steve
We are doing the same - arrived in New Plymouth on 4th Nov on holiday visa, with all the paperwork in tow needed to apply for work permits and PR (birth certificates, evidence of partnership such as old bills, bank statements etc, letters from work/old payslips, evidence of qualifications, etc). We are renting a furnished house and had some savings to fund those early weeks before we found jobs. Put kids straight into school and had to pay international school fees as they don't get free schooling until you get a work permit.
Have a search on my previous postings if you like.
We didn't sell up before we left as if we stay we plan to rent our house out. My partner found work after 6 weeks and started in Jan - he had no qualifications at all, just evidence of work experience. He got a work permit in less than 2 weeks and my permit (an open permit as i applied as the partner of someone with a work permit) was processed in 24 hours. Meanwhile I've been offered a job and currently negotiating contract for more flexible working arrangements as we too have children. We came to New Plymouth - maybe not the greatest source of endless jobs in the world but we still found work, relatively quickly i think (we particularly chose New Plymouth as we've been to NZ before and loved this area).
We chose this route as we only had 95 points so NEEDED job offer even to submit EOI. Also we wanted to test it out first - not brave enough to just sell up. We will need to go back to sort out our house/ship furniture etc. if we decide to stay.
No you are not insane, you are adventurous, and you realise life is not a dress rehearsal. People told us we were insane before we left, now they ring/email us and tell us they wish they were doing the same. I do believe, having lived here for 3 months now, if you are keen to work you will find work!
Good luck, sounds a good plan to me!

Welcome to you steve and family.......
We have also only just started along the route of actually applying and getting on with it. Having never been to New Zealand before, we have used this forum as a research tool and it has been fantastic. It would seem that if you cannot find the answer (or someone who has it) on here then you are asking the wrong question!
I don't think you are mad at all, you only get one shot at life, why not make the best of it? We are of exactly the same mind, sod it lets just give it a go.
Good luck to you I say...................

Steve,
I can help you in one aspect of your inquiry. I was able to get a government with my Working Holiday Visa and my employer called NZIS to validate that this was allowed. I have inserted some text from an e-mail I recieved regarding the matter and I hope it is of some help.
I had a quick chat with Immigration to make sure I understood the situation
He basically has two options
We offer him a contract position (under permanent employment conditions) for one year. He then can:
1. Towards the end of the contract term apply for an extended work permit. Apparently he would need to pass a medical and also get FBI security clearance. He should do this at least 2 months before the end of the working holiday visa
2. At any time during his work in the first year he could apply for PR under the points system. He can easily assess how easy that would be by using the immigration calculator
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/workandlivepermanently/LinkAdministration/ToolboxLinks/pointsindicator.htm?level=2
He would need to have at least 140 points (I can't see that being an issue)
We have had a person in a similar position before so we do have some precedence.

We will continue our research collect all the information to support our EOI keep looking at the forum and ask some more as we have learned a little more. Thanks again Steve
