Whatever you do - check who the NZ contractor is. It doesnt matter how good the company in the UK is - its here that you are going to come unstuck - as so many people have.
Dont use anyone that uses NZ van lines. These are by far the worst, but there are others to look out for. I would really recommend searching for info on Maf Fees (Or just ask smiler nicely before ducking out of the way!) and all the ways the NZ companies can do you over!
Also, if you choose NOT to go with a company that uses NZ Van lines - Tell then that this is why you are not using them, and you would give them the business if they stopped subcontracting to this company. They wont care once they have your money - but the more people that tell UK shippers that this is the reason they are losing business - the better for those who come after. IMHO!

Did somebody call? :laugh
Are you using CURTISS who are part of White and Co or another company affiliated with them. I have no experience of White & Co but if they carry on associating themselves with CURTISS they are going to lose business. Please see my zillion other threads for the horror story that is our (insert expletive of choice) shipping story.
All my stuff, 169 boxes and cartons was packed in White and Co wrapping, boxes etc except for about 3 boxes which were stamped with CURTISS.
The quality of the rep has no bearing on the quality of service you will get. CURTISS staff made promises that never materialised. If you want to use them ask the rep to come back when you are there. (Sorry Mrs Neil not dissing you at all there) :o
NEW ZEALAND VAN LINES were just as bad but according to them are only a receiving agent, make of that what you will when it comes to trying to sort the mess out.
I agree with Avalon, tell them why you passed them over for someone else.:exit
Good luck

The quality of the rep has no bearing on the quality of service you will get.Absolutely!
The only quality thing about Pickfords UK was their salesman...

Hi Everyone
We used Curtiss & NZ Van Lines here in NZ. To be honest were were extremely happy with both of them. Curtiss were superb & all our stuff was brilliantly packed. Only one mirror glass (out of 5) was cracked & 1 lamp was broken. All our china, glasses, furniture, etc, was absolutely fine. Nothing was damaged.
I have read your horror story Smiler and I really feel for you and all of you who experience this - it must have been so heartbreaking.

We got four quotes and they all used NZ Vanlines! We decided it probably made no difference who we chose as they would probably all be rubbish at the other end, so we chose Bishop's Move cos they were the cheapest - they were pretty much of a muchness.
Whites came to see us too - we didn't choose them because we had to chase for a quote and when it finally came, they'd sent it to the wrong address, which I thought didn't bode well.
