I've been struggling with a back problem for few days - I got a bit carried away moving the hay bales. Anyway someone in work said "Why don't you just go to the physio, ACC will cover it".
Turns out that if you injure yourself in an accident, including a sports injury or doing work around the home, you are covered by ACC for treatment.
I booked up a physio appointment, this morning, got seen this afternoon, and so far no mention of having to pay. Seems too good to be true to me, so I'll see what happens at the end of the treatment. I'll let you know how I get on

That's right Andy. When we were moving house I hurt my back lifting a bookcase and went to docs as I couldn't work. I thought that as it wasn't a "work injury" I would need to pay for treatment. But no. They got me to fill in an ACC form at the docs and gave me the telephone number for a physio and said go there, take 5 days off work and ACC will pay for the massage and physio!! Never charged a penny.... :nice1

Hi this may sound dumb but whats ACC?

It's the Accident Compensation Corporation. It seems to be like a national accident insurance scheme. As I understand it you can't sue if you have an accident in NZ as the ACC covers all treatment costs no matter who was to blame for the accident.
www.acc.co.nz explains it better than I can.

Yes - it does cover hols - my Mum got treatment for a back problem 2 years ago covered.
My brother (on a tourist visa) has just managed to get $1500 of dental work because he fell and broke his 2 front teeth. He does have to pay a proprotion toward it - but its only $57!
